New Prototype action

Nice action, looks almost identical to a Bat vrpic, with out the integeral recoil lug. what is it the bolt made out of ?

Nice to have a Canadian action but why jack up the price as if it were imported? kind of a #### move being honest...

If its the same price that's not going to stop actual buyers from looking at the states. Last time i checked it was not hard to find local gun smiths with good quality actions.

Well it depends on marketing strategy. A small shop is capable of only making so many actions, so the few they make they might as well be profitable and charge as much as they can. I do believe given the US export restrictions, and Remingtons quality standards, that there exists an opportunity for a Canadian dealer willing to produce a decent product in volume for the Canadian market. Something along the lines of what Cooper is doing. You could potentially replace Remington's target/varmint/tactical line with a Canadian made product.

A Surgeon type action, BC Tactical mag kit, Robertson stock, Gaillard/McLennan barrel. Keep it simple in the beginning, .308/.260 Rem/.223/6mmBR. Keep the price under $2000 and they'd fly off the shelf. With todays CNC, Canadian suppliers, our shooting community, I believe it can be done.

I helped design a custom action once. One of the the things we really wanted was a flat bottom so it would have a better bedding surface. Would it be possible for your acton to have a bit milled off the bottom to leave a flat?

Yeah, under $2000? your bottom metal , stock and finished bbl are over $2000. Where is the action, bedding, trigger, coating, and misc fitting?:D

We're not saying that it's better than all the rest, not reinventing the wheel here. Just a great solid 700 style action made in Canada that's made just as well as the other customs.

If you're competing at the same price point as other imported actions, I hope for your sake you've got something to offer other than being "Canadian Made" as you say. Arguably, the market is flooded now with aftermarket actions. Canadian shooters have never enjoyed as much variety and availability as they do now.

If you're going to get my money, you're going to have to offer something that's better than what's currently available. Either options or price point. Otherwise, why would I buy something that's and unknown quantity and doesn't have an established track record of quality and durability? I'm not gambling with thousands of dollars.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about it though. We can never have too many options in which to choose from.

I am not a Savage hater as some seem to believe. The nut and floater comment was a joke.
Manufacturing things in Canada is more expensive than doing it in the US. That's a fact. I stated a few times that the price will be as low as we can possibly offer in Canada. Please don't jump to conclusions as to prices.
People that have purchased anything from me in the last few years already know I don't charge more just because we are in Canada and I can.
This is my opinion and belief. Look at all the action manufacturer's in the US and all over the planet. Everything has been done and done about as good as it's going to get as far as quality and design. Not to say that a new design can't come long, there's always new ideas. My goal is this in a nutshell. I'm tired of calling up a dealer in Canada for a component and I have to wait for it to be ordered from the US with a couple of month wait time. I know that to stock everything cost money and no one seems to want to put it out to keep some sort of stock in house. I'm trying to change that.
Yes there are some dealers on here that stock stuff but there are things that we all still have to constantly wait for.
In a nutshell. Please don't attack the action. How can anyone attack price point when we haven't given one yet? I never even asked anyone to buy one. I won't be like some and come out with a product and say it's better than all the rest. I'm actually always leary of anyone that says that.
We have made a prototype. We'll test it. It will work as well as the others for it's intended purpose. It's not a benchrest action. It's made to shoot in the field, FClass, tactical, hunting. We'll keep you updated if you are interested. What else is there to say?

Lets all just have fun with our projects and let someone else do the same. This is fun isn't it? Making new stuff? It is for me.

Side bolt release, M16 style extractor, Remington trigger drop in. We'll release all spec and mat'l info as we go along. We're making this to be a Rem. 700 drop in replacement. This bolt handle is straight but the new ones will have a swept back like a Rem. The tactical model if we get that far will have a flat base and a straight handle with integral lug and rail.
And just to add, this is only a fun project with a potential. If it doesn't pan out and isn't worth it well I'll just keep on doin what I'm doin.

Cool Action!!!! All I can say is I want one!!! I had my hands on this action earlier this week!!! You guy's won't be disappointed!!!! The wait will be worth it!!! No matter what the cost!!!! John will be fair with pricing, he always is!!! The development that has went into the action is just not simply copying a Remmy 700 it's much more involved!!! I cannot wait to get to shoot them!!!

Cheers

There are some here who think that if it's not Savage it should not be here on this board. They've obviously never tried any fine custom action yet or are just Pro Savage hecklers. I like to poke fun at them once in awhile because of their zeal.

Nothing wrong with Savage actions, but they are not leading the way in the custom action arena. Still based on Rem 40X designs and others like the RPA, Barnard, etc have their own concepts nowhere near what a Savage does. In fact, I remember in the late 90's when Savage first started coming out with their Palma rifles that has imitated the custom actions somewhat because they also can learn.

Indeed John, that's what I do, having fun. When that stops, I'm out of the game.

Is your bolt a one piece design or soldered?

The price thing is always a point because most people on this forum are cheap.

If I quit buying factory guns for a year, I would have 2 customs. :(

You are 100%, correct! That's why they own Savages & Stevens rifles.

Champagne tastes on a beer budget.
