Nice to have a Canadian action but why jack up the price as if it were imported? kind of a #### move being honest...
If its the same price that's not going to stop actual buyers from looking at the states. Last time i checked it was not hard to find local gun smiths with good quality actions.
Nah, we'll leave the nuts and the floaters for the Savages!!
Well it depends on marketing strategy. A small shop is capable of only making so many actions, so the few they make they might as well be profitable and charge as much as they can. I do believe given the US export restrictions, and Remingtons quality standards, that there exists an opportunity for a Canadian dealer willing to produce a decent product in volume for the Canadian market. Something along the lines of what Cooper is doing. You could potentially replace Remington's target/varmint/tactical line with a Canadian made product.
A Surgeon type action, BC Tactical mag kit, Robertson stock, Gaillard/McLennan barrel. Keep it simple in the beginning, .308/.260 Rem/.223/6mmBR. Keep the price under $2000 and they'd fly off the shelf. With todays CNC, Canadian suppliers, our shooting community, I believe it can be done.
We're not saying that it's better than all the rest, not reinventing the wheel here. Just a great solid 700 style action made in Canada that's made just as well as the other customs.
I'm tired of calling up a dealer in Canada for a component and I have to wait for it to be ordered from the US with a couple of month wait time. I know that to stock everything cost money and no one seems to want to put it out to keep some sort of stock in house. I'm trying to change that.
Lets all just have fun with our projects and let someone else do the same. This is fun isn't it? Making new stuff? It is for me.
There are some here who think that if it's not Savage it should not be here on this board. They've obviously never tried any fine custom action yet or are just Pro Savage hecklers. I like to poke fun at them once in awhile because of their zeal.I am not a Savage hater as some seem to believe. The nut and floater comment was a joke.
Indeed John, that's what I do, having fun. When that stops, I'm out of the game.Lets all just have fun with our projects and let someone else do the same. This is fun isn't it? Making new stuff? It is for me.
Side bolt release, M16 style extractor, Remington trigger drop in. We'll release all spec and mat'l info as we go along. We're making this to be a Rem. 700 drop in replacement. This bolt handle is straight but the new ones will have a swept back like a Rem. The tactical model if we get that far will have a flat base and a straight handle with integral lug and rail.
And just to add, this is only a fun project with a potential. If it doesn't pan out and isn't worth it well I'll just keep on doin what I'm doin.
I don't charge more just because we are in Canada and I can.

The price thing is always a point because most people on this forum are cheap.
If I quit buying factory guns for a year, I would have 2 customs.![]()
You are 100%, correct! That's why they own Savages & Stevens rifles.

Cool Action!!!! All I can say is I want one!!! I had my hands on this action earlier this week!!! You guy's won't be disappointed!!!! The wait will be worth it!!! No matter what the cost!!!! John will be fair with pricing, he always is!!! The development that has went into the action is just not simply copying a Remmy 700 it's much more involved!!! I cannot wait to get to shoot them!!!
Cheers
