In most cases no. The neck tension of the case holds the bullet fine. In tube magazines like a Winchester leaver action 30/30 you must crimp.
 
crimping does two things... it helps keep the bullet seated and in the case of tubes like has been said. many shooters crimp into the cannelure which all but guarantees no backward slide but it is controversial. crimping also helps keep the case mouth from hangin up on chamber mouths and feed ramps. rifles with magazines especially the big boomers sometimes benefit from crimping because with heavy recoil the rounds in the magazine slam into the front of the magazine and can force bullets deeper in the case. proper neck tension makes this uneccessary i feel...
 
I put a slight crimp on my 30-06 loads for my M1 Garand for one very unusuall reason:


My chamber is so large that I only full length resize HALF the brass (still fits safely in my chanber). Becasue only half of the brass is resized, only half the neck is resized and there isn't much neck tension for the bullet seating. So, I screwed the seater down to apply a bit of a crimp and voila, no more neck tension issues.

there isnt realy need to unless your maybe shooting certant repeaters (mainly semi-auto's and lever actions) but i still do since i have ahad 30-06's push in a little when cycleing through our rem 770, and also just to help prevent water from getting in them while hunting.
