After searching and reading for what seems like months, I finally picked up what I think will be a good platform to use, learn and then build on.
Remingtom LSSF TH DM in 30.06:
Up to now I have been shooting my SR-22, CZ858 and JRC .40SW up to 100 yds with iron sight (CZ) and scopes on the other 2. Getting what I consider to be pretty good results with the SR22 and the CZ.
It seems that there's a good body of opinion that the Rem 700 action is good and can be used to build virtually anything.
I really liked the thumbhole stock as the other 700s I handled the grip was too small for my big meaty mitts. It's also got the Rem X adj trigger. I kinda felt with this stock / barrel / trigger combo I might keep it as is for a little while rather than just basically tearing it apart as soon as and replacing parts. I guess worst case if I don't like it, I can always sell it for something else.
Like the 24" medium, fluted stainless barrell, light, but the fluting should cool it I would hope.
Why 30.06 - I was going to go .308, but for that little extra few cents a round it'll have a little more power out to a little longer distances once I do my part. Hoping to get out Sunday to test it out
1 Question - I will but a better scope, but I have 2 available to me right now: Leupold 2-7X33 VXII and a Simmonds 4.5-18X40 Predator Quest. The current range goes out to 300 yds, and I'll start at 100, then 200 etc...
Which of these 2 scopes should I mount until I get around the buying a new one specifically for this rifle (and why)?
Any other comments appreciated
TIA
