I have one of these on order in 223, no word if Corona Virus has pushed June/July projected delivery into the fall or later. The 223 comes with 10.5" barrel, twist not shown, but this is basically the Remington CP pistol sold in the US with a 1 in 9" twist. They are also not very light, looks like 6-7lb range. In any case, I am interested in whacking a few coyotes with one. I have never shot or even handled an AR SBR, but I know guys run barrels as short as 7.5". I understand velocity with a 50gr would be in the 2500ish range, but how obnoxious are these to shoot? It looks like they come with thread protector only. I would prefer not to use with a brake, but is something required to tame tbe jump on these short rifles?

308 is 12.5" barrel, 223 is 10.5"

My bet is it’s going to be loud, I’ve been around short barrel ar15’s at the range a few times and it had a big bark. Get yourself some electronic ear pro if you haven’t already, anything in the 10”-14” barrel length starts to get loud.

I always heard that short barrels were louder, but someone explained that you ear is just closer to the barrel. Not sure what the truth is.

If you held it out at arms length, the muzzle would be further away, but the muzzle blast is still going to be more pronounced than with a longer barrel.
Short ARs with a simple flash hider are loud, compared with a rifle length barrel with similar muzzle unit. Ones with aggressive brakes are really rude.
You might consider a linear comp., which directs flow forward.
Make sure you have superior ear protection.

would sure love to be able to run that suppressor setup here.... That is one fun looking coyote unit.

My SB AR is violently lout in .223. It has a comp and is not fun to stand next to the shooter. Ear plugs and ear pro recommended.

I’ll give you that it looks cool but without being able to use a suppressor I see more cons than pros to use a rifle with that short of a barrel.

That short of a 223 might work good with grouse. The velocity out of that length barrel should be in the 22 hornet range. Too bad you can’t hunt with anything less than a 305mm 12ish barrel in Bc.

That one with the silencer looks great, it would be awesome. It's a shame that we aren't allowed cans here in Canada. It's actually criminal that we aren't allowed to protect our hearing with these simple noise reducing devices.

Anyways, to your question- yes it will be loud guns are loud. Centerfire rifles are f@cking loud.

I've run 223 AR15's and bolt actions with barrels from 12.5-22". The nicest AR15's to shoot for me are the rifle length gas systems with a 18-20" barrel and some sort of flash hider. The recoil impulse is smooth and the muzzle blast disperses nicely. The 12.5/14.5 bark a bit more while the 16" is a decent compromise if you want to lose some rifle length. Attach a muzzle brake to any of them and the felt and heard blast is greatly increased.

I just received 2 Ruger Ranch with 16" barrels. I will probably stick some sort of flashhider on them as the muzzle blast is very pronounced, with plenty of fireballs. Much more so than say a 14.5" AR with a muzzle device attached.

For a hunting rifle, I would forget the brake- it's just not going to recoil very much anyway- and put on some sort of flash hider. Even a $10 A2 Flash hider is perfectly serviceable.

A good ballpark website

Like all provinces, BC does have a few stupid regulations and the 12" barrel rule is one of them. It's mind boggling that we don't participate in foolish regulations like blaze orange or caliber restrictions for deer but a 10" barrel is forbidden. The BCWF has put forth resolutions to change that regulation (as well as change the "no hunting with handguns" regulation but nothing ever comes of it.

Apparently manufacturers will make anything if it will sell ... why anyone would want this is beyond me ... this will probably end up on the schitt list too.

I like this combo a lot going to grab one in 308 Win when it comes out.

Wish it came out in 338 Federal or 6.8SPC though.

As to the usage I hunt with 14" barreled T/C Contender carbines OAL is appr 28" these Rem's are not much longer than my Contenders even with having the longer bolt action.

As to loud yes short barrels require wearing hearing protection its not just the sound its the pressure wave that gets you can hurt your inner ears.

Here is a picture of my 14" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 338JDJ #2 I get 2500fps with 180gr Accubonds making this a 320 yard hunting combo and why I'd get one in 338 Fed if available.

I do not worry about accuracy due to these short barrels are super accurate in my experiences with short barrels I load for velocity

I pack my 14" barreled Contenders on the handlebars of my motorcycle I will be packing the short barrel Rem 700 the same way.

No thanks, maybe with a suppressor. My 18.5" .308 is the absolute shortest I would go without a suppressor. 20" .308 Win class case/bore ratio is nice IMO.

I would go 16" with a smaller case/compression ratio cartridge like a .30-30, 7.62x39, .300BLK, or a straight wall like .44Mag. 12.5" in a.308 just seems like a lot of noise and flash for questionable benefits.

Short barrels are way easier to bush walk with . Not a problem for flat landers that are more likely to atempt longer shots . If it fits your needs and wants go for it simple ! Short barrels really catch my fancy , they are just easier to sholder fast and swing for snap shots .

Should work great on bike handlebars or on a quad with a front mount. Fast to deploy too.
