New Remington 700 PC SB shorty - practicality of 10.5/12.5 barrel rifle

Jealous.... cou:

Ummm. No. But, to each their own. I don't find 20, 22, or 24 inch barrels a hindrance during a hunt, so I don't see the practicality of a super short barrel. On mountain hikes, I take my single shot which breaks in half and is very storable in a pack.

Muzzle blast, extra noise and major FPS drop. Zero interest here. 20 inch minimum.

LOL thats nice it also shows me that you do not understand...

I also shoot a 300RUM and a 375RUM losing a little velocity in a 308 is not relevant in my realm of thinking.

These short barreled fast handling carbines are super cool awesome but then I'm not a road hunter or a bench guy.

Sure looks like a fun build to me.
My 16" 223 is handy lil rifle but in the future I might build something shorter/lighter when funds allow. Thinking a 12" 300Blk would be neat sub sonic plinker.

I had my 16" barreled Ruger American Ranch rifle in 450 Bushmaster out with me yesterday morning saw my first grouse of the season at 65 - 70 yards loaded with 225gr Hornady FTX I popped it in the head.

While it is a faster handling rifle than the 26" barreled Cadex Defense Strike Nuke Evo stocked Rem 700 in 300RUM that I also had with me it was still cumbersome compared to the 12.5" bareled Rem 700 PCR short rifle in 308 Win.

I also shoot/hunt with 14" barreled T/C Contender carbines and have come to appreciate the fast handling of these super short carbines.

2740 FPS with the 125gr bullet in a 12.5" barrel is about 400 FPS faster than a 123gr bullet from a 20" barrel 7.62x39.

Your rifle is for sure a 300 yard deer killer with the 125 or 150 gr bullets. :)

I just received 2 Ruger Ranch with 16" barrels. I will probably stick some sort of flashhider on them as the muzzle blast is very pronounced, with plenty of fireballs. Much more so than say a 14.5" AR with a muzzle device attached.

Found mine was the same until i started to handload with heavy for caliber bullets and Varget. Smoothed things right out.

I've been only shooting - zeroing my 12.5 barreled Rem 700 PCR short rifle in 308 Win off the hood or roof of my vehicles = I finally made it to the range today with it along with my son and his brand new stainless camo stocked Tikka T3x superlite in 30-06.

We got his rifle zeroed at 100 yards with 150gr factory rounds I then dug out the PCR short rifle in 308 Win.

This is the very first 3 shot 100 yard group at a gun club/range I have ever shot with it my loads were my 125gr Accubonds with 43.5gr IMR3031 gives me 2740fps.

It is now hitting 1 1/4" left and 1/2" higher.

Oh yeah super happy

Nice, I really like these short barrel rifles. It’s right up my alley, if they made one in a LH action I’d consider one for sure. I’d love to hunt with one, would easily work within my ranges where I hunt. Idgaf about the noise or muzzle flash, neither do the deer lol.

Seems like a gimmick. A short barrel contains the explosion for a shorter time so maybe that causes the explosion to be louder. A person could reload with quicker powders to help with loss of velocity maybe but the sound may not change

I wear hearing protection even when hunting so your point is none issue to me.

What most people do not understand is how accurate short 12.5 - 14" barreled guns are.

I reload so get to choose the powders I use = two different factory 150gr gave an anemic 2275fps and 2350fps my IMR3031 150gr loads do exactly 2500fps they hit 4" higher than my 125gr loads do out to 300 yards.

I was shooting fast at a 200 yard painted white metal silhouette target with 150gr loads as well yesterday was a hoot to smack it at the rate of fire I gave it.
