New bolt action rifles with detachable mags should come with a spare bolt and a spare magazine. It is amazing how many rifles are out there without a magazine and either out of commision because of a lost bolt or with a dubious and possibly dangerous replacement.

It would be nice if ordering a "spare" bolt was an affordable option at time of purchase. I often order spare mags at the same time I buy a rifle, but bolts are a whole different story. I have never lost a bolt, but have needed to replace damaged, defective, corroded or Bubba's bolts.

Not, hard order one when you buy the guns new
Or, buy them when the guns are replaced with a new model
Many parts dealer's sell them very reasonable

As far as bolts are concerned - the basic price would be increased a lot, probably $300 + ... and you would potentially have a lot of dangerous replacement bolts out there as they are not all the same...

I don't think it is common to lose a bolt...

As far a detachable magazines go - there is nothing preventing one from buying extra magazines when buying the rifle, or buying them later...

Its always the rifles that have been out of production for 40 years that are missing bolts. It was safer in the 70's to hide your bolts.

OKay, maybe not a bolt, but a spare mag would be nice and wouldn't cost the maufacturers much. But I don't think they will ever do it because they rely on the excessive profit from selling additional, spare or replacement mags.

I've seen rifles sold with no bolt, so I suppose there are a few morons out there loosing their bolts... but why make everyone pay for their stupidity? Spare mags can be purchased separately... I prefer hinged floorplates, but for the few rifles that have detachable mags, I have spares, including my pre-81 BLR's, and NO they are not for sale.

With a detachable magazine, i buy an extra one as a matter of course. Beats reloading in the field.

Totally with you on that one!! Or a lever action.... nothing to be lost! And if you do then you lost more than a bolt or mag hahahaha
