So, just got my Ruger Gunsite scout back from Ron Smith. He rebored it to 358 Winchester. He is a true professional. It was a few month wait to get him to take it and 4 months for the work to be done. I have a Leupold 1.5-4 Scout scope with Warne detachable rings.

It shot sub moa as a 308. I'm hoping it will do it as a 358. It'll be my new quad gun. I'm going to start with a 225gr Sierra GK load. I've had decent success with gamekings in other calibers. I have lots of new guns before but I'm extra excited to shoot this one!

Hey thanks. That's the plan. I've rarely shot anything past 150 yards. The scout platform takes some getting used to.

I didn't like mine with the scout scope style mounting, so I bought the XS rail and mounted the scope in a position that balanced the weight and provided perfect eye relief for me..... That being said, this year the scope is coming off altogether and I am putting a red dot type sight on it for pushing deer in thick woods.....

Very nice, you will really enjoy it.
I bought a Ruger Frontier 358 with the 16.5" barrel and it is the handiest little rifle I have for quadding, or in the truck.

I have a Rem. 700 Scout rifle which was in .308 which I shot out. I also had Ron Smith rebore it to 358 win. it is very accurate with both cast and jacketed bullets. I was out shooting it today works great, although I have switched from the Burris scout scope back to receiver mounted Leupold 1.5-5.

They're great to carry, just grab a 3 round mag. The thumb fits nicely under the scope tube with a standard scope setup.

With the scope in the forward position, does the balance point move in front of the mag?

It would depend on which mag you are using.... With a full ten rounder it wouldn't..... On mine (Above) I use a 3 round mag for hunting and, using the XS rail, I put my scope on where I felt the balance to be perfect.....

I just did a quick test and it seems like the pivot point is at the side of the mag nearest the muzzle. So just past the mag and that was with 5 rounds in the mag. I still find it balanced but you'd have to handle one to be sure.

I'm curious, the 358 Win is a great caliber, but I'm thinking going the same route, only re-boring and chambering to 350 RM for a little more umph! What's the consensus????
