Hey guys, I'm likely gonna pull the trigger on a Savage 11/16 International Trophy Hunter XP, and eventually I'd like to put it in a nicer, but affordable, stock.
I've always liked the Boyd's laminates: yum!
But sadly I saw this on the page for their Savage 11/16 stocks:
Sure enough, the new XP packages all have plastic trigger guards and magwells.
No information on Savage's site how much the factory bottom metal costs... and the only bottom metals I can find are aftermarket, expensive! DBMs for fitting AI mags and whatnot. I don't want $250 bottom metal on a $500 rifle!
Anyone gone down this route? Should I just give up and get an Axis + Boyd's instead if I'm cost sensitive? Or are there other nice, inexpensive stocks out there?

MUST READ: If you have a XP model with a synthetic stock, you will need to purchase the bottom metal component system through Savage or any aftermarket component supplier.
Due to the many variations of trigger guards that have beed used for Savage Actions. Boyds uses a flat bottom metal design. Fitting for plastic and some metal models may be needed or contact Savage or Brownells for the flat bottom design.
