Hey guys, I'm likely gonna pull the trigger on a Savage 11/16 International Trophy Hunter XP, and eventually I'd like to put it in a nicer, but affordable, stock.

I've always liked the Boyd's laminates: yum!

But sadly I saw this on the page for their Savage 11/16 stocks:

MUST READ: If you have a XP model with a synthetic stock, you will need to purchase the bottom metal component system through Savage or any aftermarket component supplier.

Due to the many variations of trigger guards that have beed used for Savage Actions. Boyds uses a flat bottom metal design. Fitting for plastic and some metal models may be needed or contact Savage or Brownells for the flat bottom design.

Sure enough, the new XP packages all have plastic trigger guards and magwells. :(

No information on Savage's site how much the factory bottom metal costs... and the only bottom metals I can find are aftermarket, expensive! DBMs for fitting AI mags and whatnot. I don't want $250 bottom metal on a $500 rifle!

Anyone gone down this route? Should I just give up and get an Axis + Boyd's instead if I'm cost sensitive? Or are there other nice, inexpensive stocks out there? f:P:2:

They do not have a bottom bolt release stock from my understanding. If you get the plastic botom metal version then may be SOL. Not sure why savage would market the bottom release stocks other than saving weight and money.

I would go the normal 11 package models to get the steel bottom metal and not look back. You can get these on the EE for $350-400 or so.
Or upgrade to the wood stock version with the bottom metal, bottom release (and now you are at 7-900) so no real advantage as they are boyds stocks for these models.

My two c.
