Just finished this up for a CGNr ... thought I'd share some pics.

I know the schnable (shnauble? schnoble??) is pretty large compared to an original, but I wanted to kind of balance out the look and flow of the butt stock....

Also - not seen here, is the ends of the top & bottom tang, and the tabs are epoxy bedded to prevent any future oil leakage, the 'rails' that the receiver sits on inside the wrist are actually laminated to the inside of the wrist with the grain perpendicular to the rest of the stock.... if that doesn't prevent future cracks ... I'll eat my hat!!

A bit of a fishbelly, makes holding it real comfortable.

New brass retaining lug - the aluminum one was pretty munged (as you can tell by the screw)

The old and new - I think that is bondo on the old one....

That's a great take on one of my favourite lever guns.

Excellent job!

Thanks!!

I have to admit that I thought it was a funny looking bird when I first saw it - but since I've quite fallen in love with it.... such a simple action!
There was a guy in the EE advertising parts for 2 99s for $250 - PMd him but got no response.... :( was thinking if I could find a musket barrel of one of the actions I could do something really cool with it...

Hi Sean,

I am a big fan of the 99 and have owned eight so far. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the sharp relief on the sides of the buttstock above the triggerguard. Wow!
I really can't warm up to the exaggerated schnabel, but that is a matter of personal taste, your workmanship is beautiful. I saw the curly maple Winchesters you were selling, likewise beautiful work.

BTW, "Schnabel" is a German word that means "snout", it is also used to describe a big nose on a person.

THANKS! like I said, I hadn't seen one before and fell in love with it myself.... it's mechanically really cool!

Anyway - it's finally had it's fill of tung oil & will be back in the mail tomorrow - maybe we'll hear from her owner at some point. ?

So it is "Schnabel" - I've seen it spelled a few different creative ways :)
