I'm looking for a new scope to put on my 30-06. It's just for deer. Probably not looking to stretch farther then 250 yards. Any input? Lookin around 250$ if that helps

I have a bushnell elite 3200, 3-9x40 on one of my rifles (30-06). As far as the 3200's go, not a lot of people around my area had much good to say about them, but I tried it, and it's been a great scope. It's not too old, only 5 years I think, but the only time I have had to make any adjustments at all was when I tried different bullets. Other than that, it's been perfect... And I've dropped it on the camp floor twice.

OP, I see that you're in Ontario. Bushnell's factory warranty center is in the Markham or Richmond Hill area, and if you're within an easy drive of that location, your choice is simple. All the Bushnell products have a lifetime no-questions-asked repair or replacement warranty, and I have literally brought in entry-level scopes that were decades olds, and had them replaced on the spot with current (and much-improved) models. I've heard that customers who have to deal with them by mail sometimes end up waiting for long periods, but the service in person is exemplary.

Nay nay.
Some had a 25 year period.
Some lesser models had to the original buyer.
I had a Sportview with the life time paper inside the box.
To the original buyer.
They could very well handle you different if you walked in the door.
Another scope I had, the warranty did run out as I tried to send it in for repair.
Called first and they said I would be charged for the repairs, parts pending.

Nobody's mentioned this yet, but you can find 2nd hand Leupold 4x fixed power for around $200 or so. I've found a fixed 4x adequate for shooting out to 300, and you never have to worry about leaving your scope on the wrong power.

One thing about the old Elite 3200's, if the pewp the bed and you send it in, they will
replace it with the new Elite's.
Happened at least once that I know of.
The new Elite's are nicer than the previous 3200 models.

Good to know. I have three 3200's and a 4200.

No problems with any of them and I've shot a lot of rounds looking through them.

After 40+ years of deer hunting in Ontario, primarily in the Muskoka & Parry Sound regions, my recommendations is for a variable powered scope of 1x-4x or
1.5x-5x ... and certainly not more than 2x-7x. Hunt with it on the lowest power setting ... if you get a chance at something more distant than the usual 50-60
yard shot you will almost always have more than enough time to select a higher power. The field of view at 1x is of significant help if you are shooting in the bush
at the typical closer distances often encountered in the bush, particularly so on moving game.

I have Leupold VXII's on 4 of my deer rifles ... 3 in 1x-4x 20 and 1 in 2x-7x 28. I have tried 3x-9x's, 4x-12x's, 4x and 6x fixed power scopes and even used a 6x-18x
a couple of times on a long "field watch". The 1x- 4x are by far my favourites. Small, compact, light and very sleek ... nothing much to catch on brush. I mount them
as low as possible. ( And would NEVER for a New York minute consider a "see-thru" mount ). Flip-up lens covers (like Butler Creeks) work well for rainy/snowy days.

Pick your brand & price point ... but opt for lower rather than higher magnification ! 3x-9x's, IMHO, are perhaps well-suited for hunting western Canada, but are,
at least o me, are a bit of a handicap in the bush of central Ontario. The huge field of view of a good quality scope set at 1x or 1.5x trumps that of a 3x glass any day.
