Not sure how new this is to everyone here, a company in the US are making a newly manufactured semi-auto Bren, CZECH ZB-26 8MM , DEGTYAREV DP28 LMG SEMI AUTO,RUSSIAN PPSH-41 ect. A scratch built receiver, everything else on the gun is original mil spec.

My question is...can these be imported since they are BTAF approved? They look very nice. Would a company like Questar take something like this on if I were to purchase one? I am waiting on some detailed information and photos from the manufacturer.

Seems to be two companies in Tx doing these together...Military gun supply is the retail side of Wise Lite Arms which is the manufacturer.

- MGS/ Wiselite same owner (nice guy by the way).

- They would have to be submitted to the RCMP Lab for approval.

RCMP like the ATF approval BUT since the bren is prohib as it FA or CA you cannot get an import permit untill the rcmp approve the gun they wont approve the gun untill they examine it..........

you have to BUY the gun get Mark or somebody to bring it up rcmp have to examine it if approved you get it if NOT you lose it and your$$

Now the bren does it use us rewelded FA recievers? if so it would NOT be approved as it would be a converted auto it MUST have a newly made semi only reciever that cannot accept FA parts

timeline probably take you 6 months

I would take one in a second! I know a guy that tried to bring in one of the re-welded Brens; they didn’t allow it past customs. I know there are guys in the US making new CNC Bren receivers, but I don’t know if they are making them in large production runs! I don’t know if there is a big enough market for new CNC receivers in the US because they can just buy the re-welded ones. If someone does find a company making them with NEW receivers I would definitely buy one. .

They must be new made without being able to fit auto part's kits, in the USA the BATF says once an Automatic receiver always an Automatic receiver (even if it is re-weld).

What about in Canada? I distinctly remember a post about this when the VZ/CZ-58/858s were being brought in... Something about the receivers being rewelded in the Czech Rep. and the CFC considered them new receivers?

- VZ-58 receiver were not rewelds, if I remember correctly they were unused receivers that had never being assembled into rifles. Because of this, after all the full auto components were removed completly and re-machining the receivers they were classified as semi-auto only by the RCMP.

- Our C.A. Brens and even Dewats would be considered Full-Auto in the USA because the original F.A. receivers are still part of the rifle. The VZ-58's sold here would also be classified as F.A. in the USA, because of their original receivers.

I have been in contact with MGS. They assure me its a new receiver...ALL of their semi auto guns are newly made and not retro fitted original receivers. Original full auto components will not work in these receivers.

So how does one go about importing it for approval?

Maybe we could do a group buy and import one for the RCMP to test. If they give the ok we could import more. If someone already has the ball rolling put me down on the list!

Buy one import it and let the rcmp test it if approved you get it back if not you lose it and all the $ you spent buying and importing it

Oh and the vz58's I think the rcmp were told that they were NEVER assembled as FA guns so therefore they cannot be converted autos
true they did weld the autosear slot closed (which is a saftey feature it prevents out of battery fireing....)

AWDF: There is another memebr on the board who is bringing in another model of these type of semi-auto production guns. Aparently he is importing the gun and it has to go to the RCMP lab first. Then he will find out if he ever gets to even see it.
I have to wonder if the US will approve export of the Bren gun. Neither government is overly friendly over these historic guns.

I'd sell my soul for a semi auto Bren.

The three four guns that I most want and can't have:

FAL
Sterling SMG
Bren
Sten

Make legal versions of these and I will buy them :)

Well, the sterling is out there. I'll be using mine this weekend :)

The stens may be possible yet, and with the Bren, hopefully these new semi-autos are the answer.

It is the FAL family that I wouldn't hold your breath on.
