New shipment of Chinese SKS

Can you guys suggest a dealer that has some in stock that will take the time to look at a few for me. Who has had good luck buying one in the last month or so? Thanks

Find a store and call them. Perhaps they will be willing to help you. Most won’t. I asked similar questions before and the standard answer was “no” (shortage of staff, too busy, surplus firearm, too cheap). Maybe it’s worth driving down to one and ask for a couple of boxes to choose from…yourself? That’s the only way to guarantee you that you will end up with the nice one.

A few dealers posted that all of their SKS are mint.

Do your homework.

i did do my homework, did you? they are not all mint.

most dealers uses this initial line from north silva: "Produced in the late 90s, all in MINT CONDITION, Matching Serials Numbers."

From the pictures I have seen not all are "mint". Tenda is sold out, Cabela's is sold out Great White North is sold out... I am calling around, I simply asked if anyone has bought one in the last week or two.

I have found a dealer that will look through a few and hand pick one for me. Here's hoping.

Cabelas has some in stock again.

SFRC has 28 in stock, and you may still be able to use promo code "HOLIDAY" for an additional 14% off. They're selling for $499, but add $24-26 shipping. I got mine for $512 shipped in Ontario. I emailed SFRC, and they confirmed these are the 1970s version with bakelite/plastic french tickler forends.
G4C also has stock.

cabelas had them on sale not long ago for $450, some got another $50 off if they did something (i cant remember what they did, maybe open a charge account?) .

at that price you cant go wrong what ever you get (as long as it is not severely rust).

I think Cabelas ran a 10% gift card promo leading up to Black Friday. That would have been a screaming deal.

I got my first one from G4C, and they price matched Cabelas. Happy to support the smaller shops.

I am late to this party, would like one just because I never got one when they were $150. and these seem to be in good shape. Tenda is showing some, has anyone gotten a sample from them and if so what is the condition? thanks.

I saw some posts on reddit and some other places, I think most of this shipment is pretty mint, but some have said there are stock repairs, very minor surface rust. All in all, some of the best looking Type 56s we've seen in a long time. I'd say if you're local to Tenda, definetly worth it to go in person. I went to G4C and they pulled one for me to look at, I was happy with it and it came home with me.

edit: just saw that you're is NS. I think this batch is pretty good to go, all the best.

thanks for the reply, I called sfrc and she couldn't tell me much saying they would be in good shape for a surplus gun made in the 50's,,, so I called Tenda and the guy said they all seem to be in great shape,, best he has seen in the last few years. he had opened a few and although greasy he said they appeared unfired; NOS, but also said due to the grease he couldn't attest to the inner workings. seemed to be knowledgeable as a person could be and i understand I could get a lemon but shook the dice and have one from Tenda on the way. As you said, I live in Nova Scotia so pickins down here are slim.So we have to take a chance once in a while. the Bass Pro/Cabella's local to us had none as they are the smallest store, the clerk was great though and said they got three in,which disappeared in an hour. also said I could order one to their store and if I didn't like it, they would return my money! I knew that would be a few weeks to get one delivered and may lose out on other places so chose to buy from Tenda.

Glad it worked out for you, Tenda has an odd reputation but I’ve always had smooth transactions. Rather support the smaller shops too. With this Gov, it’s better to have them in hand than waiting for it to ship to store etc.

I think you'll be happy with the SKS, the price will only go up. Better late than never, I bought my first Tula 1950 (all parts matching, except magazine, but has the better internal limiter rather than the rivet they do now) in 2020 for $400. I really dig the history and nice to have the original, but I think I like the /26\ Type 56 a bit more. The blueing is really deep, crown and bore appears unfired to my eyes.

For the quality, it's hard to beat the good ol SKS. Milled receiver and whatnot, we have AR180s in Canada going for triple and they're always blowing piston rods and experiencing catastrophic failures. God, I miss my ARs...still kicking myself for not picking up a Stag 10 when I had it in my cart.

Arent the Type 56 stamped receiver ?

You can read up a lot here and I think you are correct but not all, I read somewhere they have big pins on the side and different receiver cover.

yooperj.com

Personally I have yet to see a SKS with a stamped receiver. But I have seen many stamped trigger groups (milled are one piece, easy to spot).
