I am new to shooting and need some advice. I've had my Ruger 22/45 MKIII (5-1/2" barrel) to the range twice now and I'm getting what I consider to be relatively tight groups that are consistently low and left of where I'm aiming.

For the vertical axis what I've been doing is trying to split the target point in half with the bottom half covered by the sight and the top half exposed so that I can see it. Is this the way to do it, or should the target point be covered by the sight?

I'm fully willing to accept that my problem is all technique if that's the case. I've had help with my grip and a little advice on stance, but not much else. I'm not sure if this will affect it, but because of the type of glasses I wear I have trouble focusing when I use both eyes. Because of this I've been shutting my left eye (I'm right handed). Do I need to adapt to the situation of using both eyes or is closing one eye generally accepted?

Any ideas or suggestions? Feel free to ask questions if you need more info.

shoot low to the left is very normal to new right hand shooter, nothing worry about. As mentioned use a sand bag is a great way to find out what is the problem.

if You are having trouble because of closing one eye you can just make a patch or cover from dark colored cardboard and cover your left eye .Then you can leave it open but not be distracted by a double site picture.
I used the same thing in Hi power rifle shooting and found it alot less tireing then having to squint through the whole match

i like the eye patch idea, i already where one to freak out my co-workers, might as well take it to the range. haha, kidding, but seriously, that does actually help.
lots of people use different techniques when shooting, find the one that works best for you, but like the guys said above, bench the gun to remove any possible human error, then adjust the sights as needed.
