New SKS's

Thanks! I'm pretty pleased with the way they are looking. The positive feedback is encouraging.

I'm tempted to do the same with my Chinese SKS too. So as long as I strip the outer layer's finish or stain my stock should also reveal the awesome natural wood pattern as yours I presume. A durable clear coat to finish it off.

You should be able to get some idea of the grain before you actually go at it. For me it was getting rid of the sticky cosmo feel that required the deep cleaning.

Those look great!!
I got one from marstar last month then ordered a tapco stock and removeable magazine from frontier fire arms.... Put it together yesterday and it was awesome. But I still love the classic look too so I'm planning to get another one of the same rifle but not modify it at all.

For sure... I like the original looking ones. No mags, sights, bi-pods, firing pin spring, trigger job, ad nauseam. But that's just me...

I stand corrected, but I generally call everything that is chiense Norinco since they usually export everything, just a habit.

Polytech and norinco do export everything. They don't make anything. They are they exporters setup to export the state manufactured guns from the state run aresenals.

Even the military guns from china have norinco or polytech etched into them in the USA.

Really the difference in Chinese SKS falls to whether it was made initially as military production or as a civilian production from spare parts. Marstar's are milsurp. The serial number only markings would indicate a 1970s production run when it seems the practice of engraving the arsenal fell away. It was picked up again in the late 70s up to 1980, the last year of chinese military production SKS.

The latest batch from marstar includes some 79 and 80 versions from factory 26, as indicated by 23 and 24 million series serial numbers and Bakelite gas tube covers.

Oh, and to the op beautiful work cleaning those stocks!!!

Really ? How did you arrive at that? None of ours are marked, but then they did not come from either company

"China. Hehehe "
Yes we purchased them directly from the Chinese MOD....

I was speaking about how the chinese sks imported out of china to the US were engraved with "norinco 7.62x39" or "polytech 7.62x39" when import to the US to meet US import rules. I wasn't refering to your product. Simply highlighting how the term "norinco" has been assumed to mean "made by norinco" rather than "shipped by norinco"

Given that all gun manufacturing in China is owner by the gov't, its kind of splitting hairs. Military production of the sks was of higher quality than the civilian versions cobbled together in china and your guns are representitive of that higher quality.

And they'll likely be the most reliable rifle you will ever own.
Not the most accurate, but they keep on running no matter what.
They're tanks...incredible value...

Nest time you are in China please take the time to get the facts, your statement is NOT correct... We have dealt with several privately owned firearms factories....

Sorry John. Just what I've heard. Obviously things are different.
