Well, the STI Spartans are here and a few pleasant surprises - they come with the top of the line hammers and sears from the STI wide-body guns!! Triggers are the nice carbon-fiber ones, too, barrels look great, and the frame to slide fit is superb
The mag (they only come with one, as do other STI's) is a Novak's 8 rounder - a very good mag. The rear sight is an LPA and actually a little nicer than the STI/Bomar on the Trojan. These guns have an attractive and tough Parkerized finish, the grips don't have the STI logo but are at least as pretty. Not quite as "reddish", but very nice and suit the finish on the gun better. The mag well has a slightly more aggressive bevel. Internals look to be very well fitted. Feel is very good, and the trigger pull is a little heavy but crisper than most Trojans as they come. Easy to lighten up with those lovely hammers and sears
Now test fired! The test gun was very accurate and reliable
I got under 2" at 25 Meters under awful conditions... I know I keep comparing these to the Trojans which I really like (and sell a lot of ), but it's really unfair to compare to other guns in the under $800 range because none of them even come close. A Mil-spec Springfield? Not a chance! A tricked out Norinco? Wellll....Have to be awfully tricked out at a cost of over $1000 to even approach this
Drawbacks? Well, the front grip strap is standard GI style, not slightly raised like the other STI single-stacks, the gun comes in .45 only (so far)..... Gee, that's about it that I can see
