New stock for the savage

We carry the B&C fiberglass stocks which are great quality, and can order the Choate, but I would strongly suggest handling 1 before buying it, they are only a marginal upgrade from your current factory tupperware.

DON'T BUT A CHOATE!!! I would definately agree with Rick on this one (not like I would ever disagree with him when it comes to this stuff). I once owned a 10FP with a Choate stock and will never own one again. I really did not like the feel of the stock.

Interesting you like the B&C I always thought they were low end. I thought about getting one for my Browning a-bolt but didn't for that reason. Maybe I should look again !

Another vote for the B&C. I put the varmint model on my 12FV and have found it too be an excellent stock for the money and a huge upgrade over the factory one that came with it.

The Choate is good for some but not for others. I agree that handling one first is a must.

I did and decided not to get one. For some reason the grip feels really "fat". At least it did in my hands. It felt awkward at best.

I bought this one from Rick to replace my 700 VLS stock. I'm very happy with it and ATRS service was great.

Keep in mind B&C makes several different quality/price levels of stocks, some are crap, like their tupperware hunter type and the Carbelite stocks are not much better.
Their Medalist line however is in my opinion better made than HS stocks are, certainly the finish is better. Both have bedding blocks , which to me is not a huge deal, believeing in properly bedding a rifle is the better way to go. Availability is about the same, but improving.

good info. It was the carbelite I was looking at. Not many options for the A-bolt.

How about a laminate from Boyds or Richards? They have some nice tactical, bench, target and varmint stocks if that's what you are thinking.

i paid 350 for a B&C medalist at ATR...such a humongous improvement over the factory junk it's sick...and you can bed it properly..i also have a choate i know everyone hates them....and they are basically limited to the range as they are crazy heavy but i shoot 1/2" with my savage pretty much routinely and it's the same accuracy as the B&C...but i must say i like the look and feel of the B&C much better and for probably an extra 50 bucks it can be had over the Choate...definitely worth looking at.

How much is the Choate "Ultimate Varmint" and does the B&C come in a left hand model for the 10 FLP ?

TIA,

Craig

The Ultimate snipper is $265.00 to $325.00 if you want all the extra stuff available for them. They do not come left hand, will have to check with B&C as to whether they make a stock for your rifle in LH

Choate website lists a left handed stock for both short and long savage actions in both the Ultimate Sniper and Varmint stocks
