I really hope that they start sooner than later on getting the shorter barrels made. I trust that it will be CMMG?
Our priority is the longer barrels (to allow non-restricted registration)... short barrels will follow some time later.
Well I understand that from where your sitting that makes sense, since you are driven by sales.
However I trust that you will not marginalize the customers who came in on the ground floor with pre-orders which enabled you the ability to present FN with sufficient numbers for sale purposes?
I have no interest in a NR SCAR, I hope we will be brought along the way and have the ability to get a shorter barrel in a timely manner?
Any chance of seeing the .308 version before the end of the year.... or next year... I'm patient..... I have already many .223 rifles but lack a 308 thumper
What we did say early on was that we'd be working on a longer barrel to allow non-restricted versions of the rifle. Even then we did not and have not accepted any orders for longer barrels or non-restricted versions of the gun.
Our first priority is to get the guns classified and to get enough guns from FN to supply those customers who placed deposit/orders already. Our second priority continues to be making a longer barrel available for non-restricted registration of the guns.

I just trying to clarify this
FN will not be making a Non Restricted SCAR (18.5" or longer barrel) from the factory.
So we would need to purchase a standard 16" SCAR.
Then down the road we would be able to purchase from you a longer Barrel (18.5) to re-register the SCAR to be non restricted.
The barrel will be produced by a 3rd party for you, not FN, I'm going to assume to the appropriate specs,
The price of the accessory barrel is TBD.
Will be have to depose of the 16" barrel to make the SCAR non-restricted?
Thanks
Essentially correct.
You can buy the SCAR with 16" barrel and then later modify it to 470mm barrel length and re-register it as non-restricted... or... you can wait (no estimate how long) and buy the non-restricted version with the longer barrel already installed (by us).
We do plan to offer a non-restricted version but at this time no estimate on when. First we need to be able to get quantity deliveries from FN so that we can fill all current backorders/demand. If I had to make a guess on timeframe I'd say towards end of 2010 we hope to offer the non-restricted version as a complete rifle. Prior to that we plan to offer the barrels for those who already own the guns and who want to re-register their's to non-restricted.
That's the "plan" anyway
Mark
thanks for the clarification! so either way, the longer barrrel will be third party scourced right? you guys are not going to bring the orginal 20 inch barrel from FN directly?
kev

Sorry Mark, you are the specialist, but:
My understanding is, if a firearm is Non restricted you can get a shorter barrel for example and register this gun as restricted, HOWEVER once it is restricted it will always remain restricted, regardless if you put that longer barrel back in that gun.
Can you please comment.

There are cases in which 12.6 guns can be re-registered as restricted because of a new and/or change of barrel (ie. Glock 27)
It's a nice little loophole.
Not a loophole. A loophole implies doing something wrong. We are just working within the laws that have been forced upon us and we simply comply with them to the letter.
