New Style Monos

Lookup Farleg on the Hammertime forum,

He has shot a bunch of water buffalo with both.

Here is an exceptional photo he shared.

30 cal 137gr Hammer Hunter IIRC

Went through the horn before killing the buff (look near the tip, entry and exit are clearly visible). I don't think this was planned, just an example of Murphy's law - animal moved it's head as the shot is released.

Pretty impressive for a little 137gr pill (may have been exceeding 30-06 velocities)

Hammer spent a lot of time testing different copper alloys - the one they settled on is pretty soft and will give reliable straight line penetration through bone (assuming adequate stability of course - SG of 1.5+ is critical here).

Farleg has a dairy farm and shoots bovine knuckles as a testing medium, so I take his word for it as I mainly shoot ribs myself

So it sounds like they might not be the best buffalo bullet.

Disappointed to hear they don't exceed the ability of the TSX

I do wonder if the petals would do more damage on softer game. For some reason I have it in my head to try 8mm CEBs on goats

I think I misunderstood what woodleigh hydros are trying to do.

Maybe I got too eager on the marketing hype, I was under the impression they performed as magic bullets that drove straight through bone, hide and tissue while the cavity on top caused soft point like permanent wounds.

I'd love to see something on buffalo hunting with woodleigh hydros and solids in small bore calibers like 30-06.
The smallest CEBs that I’ve used were in the 375 H&H and the smallest game I used I used that on were black bear and whitetail. I won’t say they don’t work but there wasn’t
anything that impressive about them; except I noted crazy blood trails. Thats something I guess, bit I’d rather not need one.

Australia is trying to move to lead free by 2027 or 2029, big up roars!

aussie company Atomic29 is making mono projies--- may be able to try some out soon but im not a big fan of mono at this stage.

interested to hear more about everyones thoughts of copper.... good thread

I've had good luck with the TTSX in 257/277/284/308, but have been wanting to try the Hammer bullet in my .257 Weatherby. Guys are getting 3800+ fps out of them which is absolute madness. I gotta see what that does.
