New Tavor Bipod From Fab Defense: The Podium

The reaction in the forums was almost the same when Magpul announced the AFG. Since the rule of cool seems to drive so much of the tactical aftermarket, I pay attention whenever someone puts out a product that looks a bit goofy. Usually, that means they focused on function, and the product is a solution to a problem (even one most shooters don't realize exists)

It may not be suited to every shooting position and hold style, but I'm guessing it does the job

I disagree, the AFG was an expansive idea on an already useful piece of equipment. The point here is that the Tavor was never intended to be used with a bipod and if someone wants a good bench shooting rifle, a Tavor is not the best choice. It's like training a sprinter for a marathon, doesn't make sense....

I firmly disagree with all saying the Tavor wasn't meant for the bipod, I think there has just never been a proper solution that follows the innovation of the Tavor so that it doesn't interfere with the Tavor's ergonomic design and add weight like a typical bipod does.

What many Tavor owners don't know is the original Tavor prototype had a very similar bipod built into it that didn't get perfected before the rest of the design was completed so it got dropped.

All to often I see IDF soldiers laying in the sand of the desert or peaking around buildings to watch over a street, prone and trying to support the front of the rifle.

If the fab bipod isn't a POS because of weak design/poor material choices, I think it will become quite popular as long as the weight gain is less then a scout light.

Sorry to derail, but have you guys ever noticed that the IDF really loves to have their rifles slung very very low when on a sling? looks really inconvenient and in the way...

^This

It looks like an excellent position for a bipod, and wouldn't mess with the rifles center of gravity. It's a clever design. There's people here going "Oh put a fist or a beanbag under the handguard" and then acting like having a bipod there instead would somehow be worthless? Is it a good spot to support the rifle from, yes or no?

My concern is the height. I really don't want the Tavor to be any higher for prone shooting. I couldn't figure out what you guys were talking about with issues shooting prone. Until I tried one of my pmags. Yes it does suck. So this bipod might be the ticket if you're a pmag issue. is it a good spot to support? Sure but for a stable hold. The bag I was talking about would be under the front handguard ie where a traditional bipod would be.

Until someone gets one and gives it a good trial, it's just speculation at this point. That being said, I'm curious if you guys have bothered to try a STANAG mag in prone yet? Heck I slapped in a pmag to try and figure out what you guys were talking about!

At this point I might just get one to test it out. Then do up a full real review. No info commercial preview crud. I still have a 3-9x on my Tavor. Might be interesting. Looks like it will be around $100.

At first glance, an ingenious solution for a problem that does not exist. My Tavor shoots very well from the prone position and has not yet been fired from the bench.

I've shot mine 90% from the bench and 10% standing up. Works super from the bench and better than an AR-15 standing up (centre of gravity is more to the back so supporting hand doesn't carry much weight.)

Why do people wear baggy pants down to their asses? I won't think too hard what some 17/18 years old conscripts do.

If you want to shoot prone, don’t open the legs on the bipod. Then it will just raise the rifle about an inch and a half. Then, if you want to shoot in another position that can use a bipod, push the button and let the legs pop out. Want to back to prone? fold the legs back in.

Putting this thing on a tavor is easier than carrying a bench around and easier than carrying a bean bag. For crown land shooting where I can use tree stumps and stuff to place the bipod on, this thing would be nice. It is out of the way until I need it. I think I will get one.

I.m surprised nobody has said that they may like the extra inch or so height when shooting prone with this thing without the legs open on it. Solves the problem of mags being too long.

I have a heavy flash hider and an XL key mod plus flashlight and fore grip that almost balances the weight evenly front to back (and i am okay with it because it looks so good so don’t rip into me). Do you guys think this thing won’t work as a result? I need to add more accessories. I was tempted to buy the brass catcher just because it exists.

Achieving maximum functionality vs minimum weight is what I strive to achieve, and as a result the Tavor has been put on a diet but still runs just as good as when I hung all that crap on it.

Looks vs functionality vs weight. Try it, you will be impressed how much fun the challenge of weighing out the options is while trying to build the slickest set up you can.

yah i think my tavor is going on a diet soon.

adios specterdr

Since we are pinned to 5 rounds anyways for p-mags, why not just get the 20 round ones instead of the longer 30 or 40 round magazines ? The shorter 20 magazines work better when shooting prone they don't stick out below the bottom of the hand guard they are basically the same length.
