OK, had to shoot M+P sport 2... here are my Russian impressions:
DISLIKE
1. all furniture is garbage
2. buffer tube-too short
3. magpul peep sights suck
4. the charging handle is too small and it moves like a piece of sh... when BHO is engaged; charging handle should be on the left for right hand shooters. very cheap aluminum
5. minimalistic attaching system
6. Handle sucks-not ergonomic, no storage system
7. Overall feeling of a very fragile system
Do like
1. Light weight
2. Pleasant kick
3. Mag release and Bolt release are good
4. After another 500-600 +$ of investments the outcome will likely become satisfactory
OK, had to shoot M+P sport 2... here are my Russian impressions:
DISLIKE
1. all furniture is garbageContrary to what mother Russia preaches wood sucks for rifle furniture.
2. buffer tube-too short Nope, you need to learn to shoot with a squared off stance. Keep in mind this rifle was designed for US troops who wear body armour hence the adjustable stock. What adjustment does an AK or SKS have? Right none..
3. magpul peep sights suck Nope, you need to keep your head closer to the peep sight, they were designed for nose to charge handle head position.
4. the charging handle is too small and it moves like a piece of sh... when BHO is engaged; charging handle should be on the left for right hand shooters. very cheap aluminumThe CH is quite small but can be replaced easily. The CH is on the left for right handed shooters, you charge the rifle with your LEFT hand while your right hand remains on the rifle. Lefties can do it as well with a reach over or reach under. When the BHO is engaged the charge handle is locked in the closed position. Why are you playing with the CH with the bolt locked open unless you're charging the rifle or closing the bolt? Where's the charge handle on an SKS or AK? Oh yeah, on the RIGHT side..
5. minimalistic attaching systemIt is pretty bone stock. What attachment systems does an SKS or AK have? Right none.
6. Handle sucks-not ergonomic, no storage systemThe stock A2 grip is weird especially the finger tab. Storage and a more comfortable grip can be had for cheap and easily replaced. What storage does an AK or SKS have? Right none..
7. Overall feeling of a very fragile systemAgain, how does feel equate to anything other than personal opinion? It's a rifle not a shovel,
not a bludgeon, not a pry bar.
Do like

nothing to do with shooting rifle correctly-it has something to do with individual mechanics/ ergonomics
the feel of fragile rifle has a lot to do, if you happened to drop your rifle.. on a concrete floor
I don't think current config will survive it very well-please don't tell me that you have to care about your rifle, don't drop and other obvious things
M+P sport 2 looks like it is and that's what I am referring to. The video was not about all ARs, but a particular one.
I am sure those ARs sold at 2000 - 3000CaD are well built, how those compare to military version-I don't know, but civilian low end version like M+P sport 2 would not survive such a torture
Did they fire military version in Las Vegas or super pricey/ super well built ones? I bet if you try military versions, used in regular army the experiment will show opposite results
Aside from my points in GREEN above lets start with no one cares what you're used to in Eastern Europe. Moving the selector backwards to fire like on the vz858 is not ergonomic and requires you to break your firing grip. Sweeping your thumb down on the selector of an AR is ergonomic and intuitive. By your logic the AK selector is wrong as fire position points down more than forward.
Reaching under for the mag release is incorrect and another hangover from Eastern European "rock and lock" designed rifles. Your trigger finger depresses the mag release on an AR.
It will survive drop tests just fine, it's been tested plenty for that and your "feelings" about it make no difference.
I believe the rifles used at Battlefield in Vegas are stock rifles with cool guy optics. I don't think they run any boutique rifles like Noveske or KAC. A full milspec AR can be had for under $2000 Cdn.
^ +1.This guy covered it all.
Basically, feelings have nothing to do with how a rifle performs. Lighter doesnt mean cheaper/more fragile.
Charging handle: get over it, its non recriprocating and its locked in position when bolt is held back on an empty mag. You either pull on it or use the bolt release to let the bolt fly forward on a fresh magazine. You can change the latch for a bigger one.
Storage: what do you need to store in your rifle ?!? An A1 stock has storage space in it and you can get a storage compartment for the pistol grip for batteries or a compact cleaning kit. Overall, there is nothing I need to use my AR that I need stored in it
Buffer tube: I dont know how tall you are, but if my 6'6 buddy can fire an AR confortably, so can you. And it is very solid. Seen a rifle falling out of the sky due to something that came loose (800-1000 feet)... And beside the broken Elcan C79, the rifle was inspected and still gets a 2-3 moa accuracy at 100m.
Pistol grip/handle "suck": compared to the small ak handle or no handle on SKS ? A2 is generic one size fits all that is easily swappable or you can dremel the finger groove.
Safety: easily operable with the thumb and not breaking the grip.
Attaching system: dont see a problem here as well
Sights: magpul back up sights are what they are, back up sightnot the best but still very shootable
Again, because an AR15 isnt as heavy and clunky as an SKS doesnt mean its fragile. Norincos sold for 499.99 a few years back and some are abused and still going. Some people will pay 3k for an AR, tell you its better because of the brand then manage to finish with lower scores at a match or never carried a military one for work...
Shot a M&P 15 sport 2 yesterday at the range, nothing wrong with the rifle and I'd buy one without hesitation. I've been using C7/C8 (military AR15) for the last 14 years and I dont feel the need to spend 2k-3k on a rifle when a 600$ rifle of the same family does the same thing. I spend the money I saved by buying more ammo. So dont worry, the AR15 in general, M&P 15 to be specific, is a strong lightweight rifle.
Enjoy the new toy and give it some time, it will grow on you and the SKS will start collecting dust in the back of the safe![]()
^ +1.
You summed it up very well.
Accuracy with open sights is same as sks
You either have a special SKS, an average AR or your shooting skills are like mine! Hahaha! (Joke)!
"on the vz858 is not ergonomic and requires you to break your firing grip"
This actually depends what hand you shoot. As a lefty, I find the CZ more ergonomic than the AR. I can hit the mag release with my trigger finger and the safety with thumb.
Hey PECHENEG,
Kudos to you for taking all this ribbing from us AR guys. Nice to see you not getting mad.
Just give the AR a chance. Listen to DT741 and KiddX. They have good info. Watch videos on Youtube and practice, practice, practice! You will soon see why the AR is still in use by most of the free world and the SKS is a parade rifle...but very shiny!!
absolutely, good advices from KiddXX, though do not agree on all things, but: 1) have to work on peep sights and because of that change my shouldering 2) with LAR15 mags will work on mag change 3) and of course will give it a chance, otherwise for 740CaD my wife will kill me.. she always says-f... 740$ and you don't like it....? suck it up and like it for a lot of money spent
Free World should be "free World" as there is no free World anymore we r living ina f... matrix
I am in AB right now
You're in luck! KiddX is there!!
