Looking for some optics help for my tikka T3 22-250 that I would like to shoot out to 600-800 yards. Not saying that money is no object but I want good quality that I will be able to keep and put on any other rifle if I sell the tikka. I was looking at a Burris eliminator so I could find range at the same time. But not stuck on that one I am open to any and all info and options.
Thanks
Ryan

Several things to figure out:

Realistically what is the max budget - scopes start at a few hundred and go up to over $6,000 (yes, really )
What kind of shooting do you plan to do - known distance for small groups, unknown distance, something more dynamic etc etc. Much of that will inform you if you want to have Second Focal Plane (SFP) or First Focal Plane (FFP)
What kind of reticle do you want ?
Do you want Mils or MOA
30mm tube or 34mm

You can see from the short list above that there are lots of questions you need to answer.

Sensibly you want good quality - only rich people can afford cheap scopes.

Brands to consider Sightron Siii, Vortex (only PST and better ), Bushnell Elite Tactical, Nightforce, Khales, TT, S+B.......

I'd suggest doing some real research into your needs and what options there are out there.

I pulled this list off Snipershide:

What is the platform for the scope? For you...Tikka T3 Bolt
What cartridge are you shooting? 22-250
What is your intended use for the scope? (Examples: PRS, Benchrest, Hunting, Target, Steel, etc. or any combination thereof)
What type of conditions will you typically shoot in? (Examples: Daylight, Lowlight, Nighttime, etc. or any combination thereof)
What are the typical distances you intend to shoot? 6 - 800 yards
Are there any specific specifications you would like? (Examples: FFP/SFP, 30mm tube, 50mm objective, focus below 50 yds, low turrets, mil or moa, weight, etc.)
What is the price range you can afford? (Examples: Under $500, $500-$1000, $1000-$1500, etc.)

I will say this about the 22-250 you're shooting. The tikka has a relatively slow twist rate 1 in 14" and that twist rate is really only good for stabilizing bullets up to 55gr. Those bullets are really only good for 550 yards and then they start getting blown around. Not saying it can't be done, but it'll be tougher with the lighter bullets and slow twist rate. If you can answer a few more of the questions on this list, we can point you in the right direction a little easier.

I was running a Leupold VX-3 scope on my 22-250 for a few years and it was good for coyotes out to 400 yards where it didn't take much thought to just hold on the coyote or slightly over their back and pull the trigger. I pulled that off and now have a Vortex AMG on it and absolutely love it. I plan to push it out as far as the gun will allow here in the future ringing steel and coyotes.

Yes ok , bench rest, target, hunting.
Daylight , lowlight.
I don't know what focal plane I would like, I do want some extra dots for distance in the sights
Price $0-$1000
You choose the other info as you see fit and also the proper bullet weight for max distance and killing power.
Thank you very much I appreciate all this information

Have a look at a Burris Veracity. 30mm tube, FFP and a really versatile reticle with wind holds. And the glass is every bit as good as its big brother's, the XTR II.

Was a Burris, Bushnell Elite guy for years. Then about 6 years ago I started buying Vortex. Warranty can't be beat and the scopes work for me. Bought 5 over the last 6 years and all are worth $200-$300 more than they cost IMHO. I don't know what you expect from a 22-250 at 600-800 yards (Ruger American in 1/10" twist for heavy projectiles would help fight wind) I would say some high magnification in the 16x and up range would be a necessity. If my old eyes like mine I would even look to 24x and up.

A Leupold cds dial will get you past 600 yards in one turn. Watch a lot of the reccomended scopes, 32 ounces is 2lbs. Not sure what kind of hunting (walking etc), but it can become a big factor. Bemchrest guns don't. Make the best walking varminter, and a kimber montana doesn't make the best bench rest rifle.

Is your tikka a heavy barrel or lite?
