Here's the artsy shot. I should frame it and put it up on the wall :D
Note the distance from the Scope to the hand guard. To me that's a perfect fit :D

The receivers do not and never have developed cracks. If the dreaded crack develops, the most that happens is the bolt doesn't hold back on the last shot. Newer SL8's may have a modified trigger group housing to lessen the chance of this developing.

This is where the crack could develop, right where the arrow points:

In another thread there is talk about a new trigger housing made for AR stocks and grips which from the mfg webpage they say it's an aluminum construction...... ~550 $us (based on a Kalifornia dealer pricing).... makes the SL-8 look all the more interesting.:dancingbanana:

The price is nothing to be happy about, but at least the option exists.

AR-15 Magwell adapter: ~190$
Trigger housing: ~560$
Magpul MIAD: ~60$
AR-15 stock: ~100-300$

So for an extra 900-1100$ you have a nice Non-restricted rifle.
Which is about the same price as getting a PE90 but you get to use AR mags and any AR stocks to customize it. Sucks to have to pay good coin for it but at least it's now an option.

why do you want to go semi-auto? Bolt will be more accurate, cheaper, and more reflective of "sniper" style rifles...

Not really, The US Army and other forces are about to replace all the "Bolt" action sniper rifles with the M16 varient M110 Semi automatic Sniper rifle.

2 reason, Just as accurate and allows the sniper to "blend" in with the rest of the operators. Snipers with a bolt action just stick out and makes them more of a hard target.

I am building a new M110 type as we speak myself

my 2 cents :sniper:

Nope, and nope.

They aren't as accurate. And snipers are unlikely to be working with "the rest of the operators". Perhaps you're thinking of the squad designated marksman, or whatever they're called today.

The semi is there because they are now accurate enough (although still not as accurate as bolts) at urban engagement ranges, and rapid follow-up shots are the rule of the day.

I have an SL8-4 and IMO if you can afford the extra cash go for the PE-90. The SL8 lower receivers can and DO crack, mine has cracked twice already and yes about the only issue from that is that the bolt will no longer stay open after the last shot BUT on a $2100.00 rifle I would expect the bolt to stay open after the last shot. Another issue is the polymer top rail, it has too much flex for real precision shooting with a scope and I find that I have to rezero every time I take it out shooting because it is always changing point of impact either 2 or 3 inches left or right. An aluminum top rail is the cure but good luck finding one now as the one company "Docrak" no longer makes them anymore but plan on spending a couple of hundred $ if you can find one. So after the bipod and an aluminum top rail your not far from the price of the PE-90. The SL8 is quite accurate though and will shoot less than MOA with the right ammo, the trigger could be better but it's not too bad as is. With the issues I've had with mine, I'm sorry I didn't buy a PE-90 instead.:(
