Hello fellow nutz,

I am in the market for an AR15 and I am having a hard time deciding which one to get. I was going to get a Norinco and swap parts for a tan and black look but I have changed my mind.

A few guys from work are trying to get me to buy a Daniel Defense but I really don't know the difference between that and any other AR15.

I am however looking at the Sig Sauer M400 in a dark earth. Not sure if I am going to like the rifle a full tan but I am aiming for a Tan and Black theme.

please help, what should I look for? What is the difference?

Also I don't want to buy a norinco because I want a good base to customize off of. I don't want little Norinco imperfections to bother me.

Thanks,

Troy

I personally wouldn't get a Norinco, I just don't find the value there with the parts that I would want to swap out. DD is a great company in the midrange price, you get very good quality, warranty, and reliability. The Sig's are really good as well and you can't go wrong with either one. Stag, RRA, Core15, Colt are some other good midrange guns to look at. You won't find a huge difference between many of them other then the backing behind their brands and the specific look you like. They are all fairly high quality and you shouldn't have problems with any of those companies. Some of the premium brands are Noveske, Knights, LMT and you really can't beat the quality or finish, just depends what you want to spend.

Colors are the last thing You need to worry about.
Think about your purchase as about buying a car.
Would You like to go with Toyota or Yugo?
If you know the answer, the very same applies to AR.
Buy once, cry once.

Your friends are definitely steering you in the right direction. Daniel Defense are high quality, mil-spec rifles and you should absolutely buy one if you can afford it. DD is going to be my next AR, or possibly a BCM. Buy for the quality, colours are just aesthetics and can be changed afterwards. Not something to base your purchase off of.

A while ago I was more into black rifles than I am today and wrote a comparative review that included the Norc AR: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/498710-Comparison-of-three-Black-Rifles

Today, after I decided to get back into AR's in a limited way (precision stuff is my #1 thing and so I can't spend too much time on black rifles sadly), I called Wolverine and ordered a DD. So, IMO, the Norc AR isn't a bad way to get started - see if you like it etc - but if you are sure you want a AR it is my opinion that DD is a very viable choice.

Thanks guys, I'll keep all of that in mind. The dark earth of the Sig Sauer is really drawing me to the rifle. I have enough black rifles and want something unique.

Daniel Defense sounds like a really good brand to check out. I think I may end up with the Sig Sauer just because I like the look of it. I definitely want to get something of quality for my first AR purchase so I will have to take my time researching everything.

If you want something truly unique, then buy the stripped receivers and build it up yourself. I went the Norinco route to see if I wanted to get in the AR game. Once I decided that I did want to play, I sold the norc and started to piece together my AR for the "unique" build I wanted. I started with a Vltor upper and lower and went from there. The rest is totally custom.

ok sounds good, I'll look into that route as well. I have plenty of time and am in no rush. I looked at the Daniel Defense and it looks awesome! I was also in Wanstalls and they recommended Core 15 because of their no BS warranty. Even if the owner messes up the gun core 15 will fix it for free.

Right now I own a KAC sr15e3 mod 1 carbine, and a BCM C8 sfw upper (doesn't have a dedicated lower yet). Both are quality units.

If I was to buy another AR, it would be a KAC, BCM, Noveske or DD. Life's too short to spend money on low quality ar's ;)

Where did you source the Vltor lower? Trying to find one for myself, but not having any luck.

OP, my advice to you would be buy the DD; I also started with a Norc, then NEA, now I own a Colt. Save yourself the headaches and get yourself a quality AR right off the hop. Buy once, cry once.

Get yourself a Sig. You know you want it.

I got my Vltor upper and lower from Armtac. Most of the other pieces came from Brownells, EE and One Shot Tactical. The barrel was made for me by Alberta Tactical.
