*new Vid* Winchester Model 94 30-30 question

:D Thank's Guys. It's 13deg outside and SUNNY! I'm thinkin' I may go open the Garage Door and do it now:dancingbanana:

Takin' the Digi-cam with me ;-)

Alright, here we go. Took er out to the Garage and started strippin her.

That Camera REALLY makes things look worse than they are because alot of the crud that shows up in the pictures I can barely see with my naked eye. Not to say it's not there and that I don't wanna get rid of it!

Unfortunately I didn't have time to do the Barrel/Chamber, run a swab down the mag or Reassemble it because Dates with ladies and possible evening ### outrank cleaning my guns :D I'll finish it off tomorrow.

Anyway, here are pictures! :)redface: Sorry, Dunno how to do the thumbnail thing :()

Excellent pictorial, Wally. I have one in 32 WS that I have to take apart to clean. It needs a couple of parts, so I'm waiting until I have them before starting.KD

Make sure to take your date out to the garage for a photo session too. We'll help you judge how clean her chamber is before you test her out... ;)
LOL If she's good you might get to see some range photo's :D Would you rater see her holding some greasy gun parts or shooting a .45?

thanks man

I'm looking at that bolt face and thinking that the whole reason why it won't feed up under the ejector is that spring-loaded thing on the bottom of the bolt. I guess The ejector snapping over the rim is just part of the whole ordeal. I suppose if I was REALLY modivated I could put in a softer spring....

Otherwise I'm sure this cleaning is gonna do some good! I'll have some more pics when I put it all together. :shotgun:

Stay Tuned :D

I had the same rifle for years, and loved it, regret ever selling it, and if I remember correctly it cycled nice and smooth, which I am guessing yours will also once you get it all cleaned up. Hope you can get that rust off. I agree with Can Down, I cannot believe someone sold it to you like that.

Out of curiosity, what kind of camera is that? I wish I could get mine to get such wonderful close-up pictures :(
Hey Indifferent. It's a Sony Cyber-Shot 6.0MP. It's not a bad little Camera but sometimes I find the Photo Quality a LITTLE sketchy when you zoom in on them and the Auto focus can be a bit of a PITA. The reason I get the Nice close ups is that it has a Macro function. lot's of the newer Digi's have Macro.

 Yeah I know. Hopefully she'll be great once cleaned and oiled but I would never sell a gun like that either. I figure it's in pretty good shape for being 50-some-odd years old. Oh well, whadaya do?

Looks like you're well on your way to having a "new" rifle!
:D :dancingbanana: Stay Tuned, we'll see how it goes ;)

OK, So I've got it all back together again. Results? It's MUCH cleaner :D Other than that it still Snaps when I try to close the action slowly and this is because of the extractor climbing over the case rim. Strange, I had never noticed it before but it's something I'll have to live with.

It's enough to piss ya off. I CAN'T get that damn screw back in  Any Ideas?

Cheers,
wally

Looking good Wally!

The band is probably slightly out of line, can you see through clearly?
Try tapping the barrel band lightly with a rubber mallet as you turn the screw gently.

Did you remove the extractor and clean under it as well?

Erg, yeah tried that. No go. It looks clear all the way through the hole and I even tried opening up the hole in the wood a bit. From the other side it looks like it's lining up. The screw went in fine when I tried screwing it in from the outside...

:( No, didn't remove the extractor. Should I have?

I've only disassembled my 9422 so I'm not sure if cleaning around the extractor will help you but it can't hurt either....
The small bolt through the barrel band took a little wiggling to get it back in on my rifle as well.

Yup that is definitely a pre 64...look at that cartridge ramp thingy.

Compare this to mine that dates to 1966... 3 guesses as to what part gives me trouble. :(

Interesting eh?

Also you have a screw holding your lever together, where I have a hollow press pin.

I hate to break it too you bud, but you have a keeper. :D

BTW Re: Barrel band screw...gently wiggly until it lines up. <---oh that sounds bad. :D

i tried both of mine for the click ,what it looks like is when the breech block comes up in front of the hammer , but not very much in my two , looks like a nice gun its a twin to my carbine circa 1954

Yep, I could see that being a major pain in the Ass. Hard to keep those cartridges goin in straight :(

:D I won't be selling it any time soon. It's still in great shape!

That's exactly when it happens. I have to put that extra pressure on it RIGHT when the breach block is trying to come up behind the bolt. Simaltaneously the shell is all the way into the chamber and the extracter is trying to climb over the case rim.

So it doesn't happen with your rifles? Like with a case in the chamber? Mine is smooth as silk when it's empty but as soon as there's brass in there it missbehaves. This is why I wish we had a good shop and smith in town. It would be nice to drive over and have him take a look at it.

THERE IS A PROBLEM!!

OK, there is a problem when the Breach block comes up behind the bolt. The "Snap" / "jump" comes from the breach block trying to get past that corner on the under side of the bolt. It does it a LITTLE bit with no round in the chamber but with a round in the gun the problem is amplified! If I put some forward pressure on the bolt as it closes the problem magicaly goes away! There isn't actually any play beteen the bolt and the leaver (as I mention in the video) because they are pinned together. What it means is that there is some play somewhere in the linkage and if I could make it so the bolt is pushed in a bit then the block will come up smoothly! THAT IS WHY I NEVER NOTICED IT ON MY DADS GUN! Also, if I push forward on the LEAVER as I close it it also gets rid of the problem! Is there a way for me to tighten this thing up??

Check the fit of the pins within the lever- at the top where it ties into the bolt - and also at the bottom. Likely one or the other is worn (or the lever itself0 and the bolt isn't being adavnced quite as far as it should when you are at the final close-up.

Hmmm, that's something strange.

Looking at mine for a comparison without taking it apart, methinks it is the linkage where your lever attaches to the bolt carrier itself.
