When did they come out? QUOTE]
When he thinks about it...jeez, weren't you paying attention. Just kidding, I think they were showing them off at the SHOT show. I'm thinking about trying to order one myself.
It wouldn't really be a Model 71 unless it was a .348. A .33 WCF version would be a Model 1886.
Either way, I wish they wouldn't have those silly tang safeties. The half-#### notch is the safety. If Uberti, Pedersoli, and the like can make leverguns with only half-#### notches, then why not Winchester? Oh well, at least the tang safety isn't as grotesque as the crossbolt they had a few years ago.
Anyone have an idea on cost?
I do recall reading somewhere that there were two prototype '71's built in .33 Win. Never heard of one being found, though.
X2. The 74 has always been my favorite lever gun/caliber combo. I picked up a 71 deluxe, after I foolishly sold my first, which was a standard model. This one I keep.

I like! These sure are sweet looking rifles! Just might have to add one of these to the heard of savages one day.
