I wish I could deer hunt with 223 in AB...
I just got a 22WMR and it was way too fun to shoot. I can't wait to test it out on some unsuspecting sky rats and ground rats
Now I'm itching for gopher season!
I was just thinking the same thing. I wonder how hard it would be to have a barrel chambered in 6x45mm (.223 necked up to fit .243 bullet, that's it) for this rifle?
If you handload just shoot 300 Blackout, I have a couple of them and it's a great round that's pretty cheap to load for and has enough punch for deer out to around 150 yards.
Next time I hear of a deal like I got on 22WMR last summer I'll let you know. I found a guy selling it for $11/box so I bought 2000 rounds. I should have bought more.
Gopher patches are drying up, I need to find some new ones
I was really contemplating buying a bushmaster ACR dmr for a nonrestricted semi coyote gun. The weight is what turned me off and it’s so front heavy. I’m glad Wolverine came out with this, ive got about 2500 rounds of 55 grainers, a Leupold cantilever mount and a Vortex Viper 30mm 2.5-10 just waiting to put on it. As far as gopher hunting I generally use my 17 hmr for out to 150 yards beyond that I use the 22-250.
I wouldn’t be calling the WK 180c the ideal gopher gun if it only shoots 2 moa. At 200 yards your going to have a lot of misses.
The ACR isn't that bad. I have a non DMR that I converted to NR and it's more dependent on the barrel you pick rather than the platform itself. I've had 5 different non restricted 223 barrels and the pencil barrel was very well balanced but didn't shoot overly well, the last few have been medium(ish) profile and they're not terrible. Still heavier than an AR but all things considered it's very manageable and the accuracy is very good.
Let me know if you want to get together for some shooting and you can run a few mags through it and see what you think. In my opinion it's still the best non restricted we can own that's under $3000.
These new offerings like the SLR and the ATRS MV-s have potential but I know from experience that building an AR does not save you money unless you're ok with mediocre accuracy and so-so parts in it. My AR's typically end up costing around $2000 worth of parts. $300 is the cheapest barrel I'll put in something before I have one custom made which ends up being around $500.
2 moa is pretty darn good if you compare to what other non restricted semi's are actually printing. Lots of claims of tight groups and lots of guys saying that 2 or more moa is no good but I've owned (or at least shot) almost every non restricted semi 223 available to us in Canada and they all shoot like that. I've seen my ACR print a few sub moa groups and the three HK SL8-4's I've owned have been true 1 moa rifles but there's no way this 180c is going to shoot 1 moa just like an XCR or a Tavor won't at double the price. If we see 2-3 moa from these with cheap factory ammo then they are doing just fine and with some handloads or premium match ammo you may be able to get a consistent 2 moa out of them but I doubt it will be any better than that. I'm ok with that though, these are not DMR sniper rifles, they are fun semi auto's for plinking in the sandpit and having some fun in the field, the 180C and the original 180 were never marketed based on accuracy. The thing that I like most about my 180B is that it is so reliable, not a single stoppage of any kind from day one.
When you want accuracy you want one of these (now wearing a Trijicon 5-20x50)

5 rounds 100 yards
When you want cheap fun you want one of these
