New YouTube video. Brian Gallup Hunts Cape Buffalo with a .577 NE Single Shot.

Hoyt if I had an h&r or two I'd take you up on your offer but with the current asking prices for them I doubt I'll buy one. Would like one in 35 Whelen and 405 Winchester

I did a rebore/rechamber to .405 Win on a Handi... it was a nice gun and it took a couple meat does.

Since I can't do the metal work I'd have to pay for it to be done. This puts me into the used ruger #1 market doesn't it? Unfortunately they don't fit that well. However I think it could be altered enough to make it work. That and if I went with the ruger #1 it would be a 450/400 nitro 3"

I did it for the cartridge, not the platform... so much of what we do doesn't make sense, and is only defensible with "because I want to..."

Get the Ruger, they're a ridiculous value. I'm enjoying using Brain Gallup's thread so don't mind if I share a No.1 stock I did and what you can do with those. It's a far, far better rifle than an H&R for really nothing more when you're considering a custom. Start with a good base is my small change, you're not going to build an Express rifle on a Savage Axis or Mossberg 4x4. I respectfully declined $5000 for the rifle below and before that almost sold it right after completion in the $4000s in a moment of weakness. Put your time and money into a No.1 and it will likely increase in value.

If you are paying Joe-Schmoe, to do a full build, I would never do it on a Handi frame... but for a simple rebore/rechamber, they are a perfect platform to play with various cartridges... they provided close to three decades of fun... and I occasionally miss their simplicity, now that I have sold off the entire herd.

P.S - that stock really reminds me of the right side of the .257.

Hoytcanon, I agree with you and my good friend Ardent. If you want to "do it right" you must start with something good. Like the Ruger #1. Agreed. ( I have had one of my Ruger #1 in process for .550 Express for a while. I must complete it.)

My Handi Rifle conversion is just something that appeals to my sense of humour. Three switch barrels and 40 rounds of .577NE ammo with cast bullets for $1000. How much fun is that! It makes me chuckle.
The guys in South Africa sure enjoyied the idea of it. Now there are a few of them over there converting Baikal shot guns to big bores.

The Skinners named my rifle "Vati Nei Kaki Nei" (spelling?) Meaning "Doesn't take sh##". The PH, Kobus, called it "Mike Tyson".

I have a TC Encore with three barrels. 243AI, 7x57AI and 45-90. Switch Barrel, Break Open rifles have their appeal to independent thinkers. (Nuts.)
The Encore is about 1.5 inches shorter than the Handi Rifle per barrel length too.

For serious rifles I also use my 458 Lott CZ or my 375HH Win M70.
