newhaven vs fn model 70's

Your dealer sounds like he doesn't really care about guns or buisness, much less being in the gun business. Fn m70s are widely available.

Most of my LGS are sold out of most models of the M70. They have been in production since FN purchased Winchester and brought them back some time around 2009.
Your gun dealer sounds like he would rather just sell you what he has on the self. I'd look elsewhere if I was you. Ignorance/deception should not be supported.

Yeah I think that pretty much sums it up...

I'll keep lookin... Just glad to know its not ME whos out to lunch :HR:

Ok so stupid question, that I THINK I know the answer to;

I was asking a local dealer to get me an Model 70 in and his reply was... "I cant find any, and I looked online and production was stopped in 2006"... I said yeah but they started up again, not long after that. He was confused...

They ARE still being produced as of now though right?!?!? I'm not losing it??? Seeing as its one of the most well known, and highly regarded bolt hunting guns out there... and seeing as they had the 75th anniversary last year, I would hardly see them calling it quits...

I'd almost believe him if I didn't know better... I've been having a heck of a time trying to find one... No store I've been to has one (WSS has one as a wall ornament, but its a Magnum, and I don't need to compensate for anything, so....)

They SEEM to be non existant

sadly from what i have seen, most local small shops cant keep em in stock. wholesale sports in langley usual has 3-5 in stock anytime ive ever been in there... (i wouldn't buy anything there)

i resent your comment about magnums. i have nothing to prove other than a love for the .300winmag

New m70 are being assembled in Portugal now. Glad I got my fn ew before they started that.

Wow I didn't think that was the case but googled it and it's true.
I've got a FN South Carolina M70 I suppose only time will tell if these new production versions hold up to the same standard.
FN has a good record, and the parts will still be machined in the US then shipped to Portugal for final assembly and sent back.
They claim it will allow them to produce more and meet market demand.

I called Winchester and they stated that the change in assembly location won't take effect until the fall. Have you heard/read otherwise?

I have not seen reviews on Portugal assembled ones yet but they are supposed to fully switch by fall season so if you want one not put together in Portugal get one now. Some people won't care where their gun is made but Winchester is most certainly doing this to save money and I doubt they will lower the price on their guns and pass their savings on to you.

I will keep buying the m70 doesnt matter where its made. People still buy the model 94 and its from japan. My next one will be a 270win in the fall/winter.
I heard parts are going to be made in Portugal and assembled in the Usa.

I don't see assembly in Portugal as an issue. Many Browning firearms are assembled in Portugal from Belgian components.
