Like to be different in my choice of caliber and believe I need a mid range thumper
I have narrowed it down to 3

338-06

35 Whelen

9.3x62

I'm not sure how to make a pole but I do reload and it will be a bolt action rifle

All three are excellent chamberings. I'd prolly go with the Whelen as there is a bit more selection of rifles out there, but it's no better than the others.

I'd take into consideration rifle and loading component availability first and foremost. If you cannot get the rifle you like and the components to feed it, move on to another choice.

.35 Whelen just to be different.
And as far as the question about what will fit in a remington 7600 they all will, the .338-06 and 9.3x62 will just require having a gunsmith do some work. Don't quote me on the 9.3x62 I'm only basing this on looking at the cartridge's dimensions.

7mm-08 is my next choice, I know that a lot of hunters will tell me it is too small but does anyone wanna tell me what north american animals I can`t kill with it?

7x57 seems to have kept many generations and some well known professionals happy and it's close to the same as 7-08.

To the OP my vote is 9.3x62

I also have lots of opinions on different cartridges but I will be polite and stick to your question and your selection of cartridges.

I don't know much about the other two but I have a .35 Whelen and it is a useful classic cartridge. I have yet to build a good load for deer for it. I have shot a few deer with factory 250 grain bullets and they seem to go through without expanding much. Kill, but not as efficiently as I would like.

I voted for the .35 Whelen;), but I bumped my personal choice up just a little to the 358 Norma Magnum.

Some time back I, top one pictured, acquired a very nice one in a model 1951 Husqvarna. And very recently, my life was made complete by :D acquiring one in a model 68DL Schultz & Larsen. One for each hand??

I voted for the 338-06. I've thought about it myself, but I find it too limiting if I compare it to other 338s. I reload so any cartridge can be loaded down with a different powder. I want a detachable mag and a 20" barrel. A 250gr round nose bullet@2600fps for bear country would be great. A 300gr/285gr hammer at 2650fps to reach out and play would be nice. I realize the 20" barrel would take some velocity away, but I wouldn't be hunting at the ranges where that would make a difference. The barrel chop would add to the cost but be far handier for me.

Gotta love CGN. OP asks for opinions of the THREE CHOICES down to which he has narrowed his search. More than half of the respondents choose something not on the list.

I vote 9.3x62.
