i just plunked down $630 for a spankin new girsan stainless 9 mm,now i'm on the hunt for a .44 sa/da revolver.not a lot of choices that i've noticed so far, super redhawk,s/w 629,raging bull that i'm not too keen on and the model 29 (dirty harry was my childhood hero) which may be out of my price range.i'd like to hear your completely biased opinions.truth be told i'm just buying one for the cool factor but a decent shooter as well,so go ahead, talk me into the only choice :d

Agree the 29 is such a beautiful revolver but I would go with the 10" barrel :)

Another option is go with a .454 and than you can shoot .45 Colt in the gun. The .45 Colt is a fun cartridge to shoot. The .454 is a bear or course. In the .44Mag world you could shoot .44 Special in it but that is a rare cartridge. Personally I would recommend a longer bbl. instead of a shorter one. Unless you like a fire show I guess that as the shooter you can't really see. The Ruger Super Black is a sturdy gun, not expensive but quality sturdy built. If you like me you won't be shooting .44Mag all that much so not worth a huge investment. The class of the calibre is the S&W 29 I think and it is the Dirty Harry gun of course.

i bought a pietta 38/357 from the ee,its on the way so i'm crossing the super black off my list.i wasn't aware .454 and .45 lc were compatible.i'm going to look into that.who makes a .454?

I don't have much nice to say about the S&W 29 since mine died. For the looks and the "i gotta get me sum of dat" factor, 29 all the way but for durability look elsewhere.
I'm just prepping my brand spanking new 629 Classic with a full underlug 6.5" barrel and so far I'm a little spooked. It feels like it's full of sand.
Since I've lost all respect for S&W because of their BS, my expectations are pretty low but where the 29 felt like a Swiss watch, this 629 feels like rusty barn gate. But I might be a tad bitter.
Pics up in new thread later as Tinypics is 503 right now.

Since I bought my .460 S&W, I don't refer to my 29-10 as a hand cannon anymore...the flames, the noise, the concussion...to die for, what a blast, literally.
Btw, first .44 I shot was the Ruger and they make great, less expensive .44, in any variety.

Have you tried......................................................................................................................................................cleaning it? f:P:2:

I have a mint 29, raging bull, SRH in 7.5&9.5, and RH 7.5. For comfort and durability I'd go RH. For peace of mind that you can play with really hot loads I have to say SRH all the way. It too feels great to hold, like the RH but tends to be a bit front heavy.......especially in 9.5"!!
