Nice gun show find!!

I'm jealous, good score SuperCub. I've always wanted a 7x57 but just haven't found the right one yet. I recently picked up the same gun in 30/06. The barrel measures 20.75" ( cleaning rod to the bolt face ) and has the barrel band sling swivel. I mounted an old Weaver 3x20 from the same era. Scoped, slung and loaded with 4 shells it weighs 7.6 lbs. and balances well. Mine has a serial no. 205###, can someone tell me the year of production?

Your's was made in 1956

Not really Paul......

On Sunday, he talked his uncle into selling him his Winchester model 70 XTR in 264 Win Mag in VG++ condition. Blued with a green laminated stock along with bases and rings and 102 rounds of ammo for $500.:eek::eek:

So to call it like I see it.....

He got a way better deal from a senile uncle!!!!!:D

And for the record, he has never shown preference for "shiny tupperware and stainless rifles".:jerkit:

Don't forget: "Thou shalt not lie":p

You would pick a push feed winchester with a puke green fake wood stock over a husky featherweight in .275 rigby?

Somthings the matter with you, pal!

I would take the Husqvarna 7 x 57, hands down, no contest, over the Winchester 264.
With a young shooter starting out there should have been no question. The 264 manum is a very poor rifle for a new shooter.

How much for the Model71? (if you don't mind me asking). I saw one at the CGS for $1800.

Hi guy. I would've replied sooner but I've been away for a couple of days. Like a with lot of others, a lot depends on the variations. Very basically, $1800.oo for a 'Plain Jane' model in 'good' shape, probably in the ball park. The one I got is a deluxe model, add somewhere around $1000.oo. Check the latest Blue Book values. 'Probably' easier to pick them up for a more reasonable price here above the 49th than below it;).

Just to add a little to the flavour, recently I picked up a couple of boxes of old factory ammo for it as well as a set of original detachable silng swivels.:D

I foolishly sold the first one I had, but I won't make that mistake twice;). Also, I didn't buy it with collecting or investment as the primary objective. It will be used in the field.:)

Why?

Lots of 'new shooters' start with a 270 which is pretty close to the 264 ballistically.:D

Are we going down the "barrel burner" road which seems to always come up when it comes to the .264 Win Mag and the .220 Swift.....

Yes.:D

Not me. It would be the Husqvarna in a heartbeat!

Not at all. There are a dozen 264 Winchesters a month available, if you are looking for one. Try and find a Husqvarna 7X57!

Please let me know Ted when they are posted with 100 rounds of ammo and Burris bases and rings in near mint condition for 500 clams. They'll never sell on the EE for that so I'll do the seller a favor and take them!:p:D;):dancingbanana:

While I still think that 7x57 is a better selection for a new shooter [or any shooter in this part of the world], I'm wondering about downloading a 264Mag to 6.5x55 levels.

If I recall correctly that 264 that Bill had was a 22" bbl model and if velocities can be slowed down, might be much better than a full sized magnum rifle with hot loads. Bill is an experienced handloader and I'm sure will tutor the young fellow on loading.

Anyone download that 264Mag cartridge?

Thanks John.

Thanks John.

Bit of an update. For the 348WCF, my selection of bullets has just been enhanced a bit. For cast bullets, I have two available, a 230grGC and a 262grGC. With my first 348, a jacketed bullet that worked very well was the 200gr Hornady, which I now have a good supply of. What added to the selection available today was a 'care' package I received from my daughter & son in law in AB. What they sent is three boxes of Barnes, 220gr Originals as well as a box of 250gr Originals. I'm looking forward to 'trying' those out. At one time, Barnes also put out a 200gr XFN and a 220gr XFN. I'd love to get my hands on 'some' of those.
