Nicest 22LR pistol

Am I the only one who finds those target 22's like the Beretta Neos etc completely hideous?

Utterly hideous, agreed. :)
It is, however a great shooting gun and likely one of the easiest to strip down and clean.
I have little girlie hands and it fits me great.
Now, the "best" pistol is of course subjective but I love my Norinco clone of the Colt Woodsman - dirt cheap, real small and shoots everything I put in it.
Haven't however tried to strip it down as I am afraid of it.

Pardini SP would be an obvious choice... It is by far the most used standard pistol on the international scene (standard pistol, rapid fire pistol and sport pistol).

But, because it looks totally awesome, Matchguns MG2E.

Those Pardini's are a beautiful piece of work, a fella at the club has one and I got to try it out. It fits your hand like a well fitted glove. and the trigger is so smooth and crisp that its a pleasure to use. If I ever win a lottery one will be on order for me.

I am really pleased with the Beretta Model 71 that I picked up for $349.00 + tax, it is reliable and accurate, some find the 6 inch barrel ugly and are tempted to hack it down to the legal limit but the extra sight radius is a bonus for me.
I had a Buckmark Camper and swore I would never sell it but a trade came along that I couldn't resist so it was gone, I felt sad and missed it but when I saw this Beretta I was in love again only this time no stovepipes which happened every now and then with the Buckmark. The Beretta has no frame on top of the breach so ejection is less inhibited.
Here is a picture of an M9 and the 71:

The 71 is one of my favorites as well, they are a great little pistol.

As mentioned, Murray - mdgardner.com - and Dante Sports are the (2) I know of.

The kits not only make removal of the bolt a snap by not having to fiddle with the mainspring housing, but also come with a 'target' hammer and bushings,
which not only clean up the feel of the trigger, but also eliminate the magazine disconnect safety.

I feel the kit totally worth it, when compared to sourcing the Volquartsen MKII accurizing kit (which only addresses 2 of the 3 issues)
or the cheaper route of Sam Lam's bushings (which work great, but only address 1 of the 3 issues).

Thanks for the info and link. Exactly what I need for my MkIII. Its already a great gun, just hard to breakdown and reassemble.

There is a nice little assembly / disassembly tool available on Brownells to solve that.

I have all the Berettas except for the Neos. Favorites are the 89 and 87 with the 76 a close second. The 74 is a larger version of the 71. The Astra T22 is a nice fun target as well. I really prefer the visible hammer pistols.

My buddy has the Neos, not the most popular pistol here, but it is a good little shooter, its fun to use and has never failed to work yet.
We all take a turn using it when he brings it out.

Never understood what the designers were thinking of with the Neos

They wanted the Whitney Wolverine mojo without the post WWII gunfitting & design work that went into them, & in my opinion, they went wide of the mark.

I have a thing for the Old school Iver Johnson revolvers. There is just something very woodsy & nice about them that appeals to me.

^would be cool to have something like this with a .22 Magnum cylinder available. :)

Are they the best? Probably not by a long shot (pun intended).

If the criteria really is "not ammo fussy" then many of the pistols mentioned in the previous several pages don't meet the op's criteria. My favorite of all time is a sig P210 -7, but it too is ammo fussy. It is a wonderfully accurate well balance over built piece of art as many 22's are. European target pistols are outstanding just not willing to digest any ammo. I keep bringing up the cz kadet as its one of the very few 22 pistols that will cycle any ammo and is match accurate with match ammo. As accurate as the 210-7, trainer.another little known fact is it cycles cleaner than nearly every other 22 semi on the planet.

I have a Ruger MK3 Competition Target with Volquartsen target sear and the Sam Lam bushing (IMPERATIVE). It is a very nice shooting pistol. I like my fathers Colt Woodsman S2, however the Ruger is a better target pistol. I like it better than the Buckmarks and Beretta 89, both of which I have spent a lot of time shooting. I had a MK2 with the long bull barrel, but the mag release was poor so I sold it.... mistake, but now that I have added nearly 70$ worth of parts to my MK3, its as good, lol.

Its not fussy on ammo, it has a great sight picture and nice grips. I am probably going to get a set of the Volquartsen grips for it in the future.

Downside is its very heavy. The next thing that must be done is to add the filler plate for LCI. Thought I could live without doing that, but it makes it a pain to clean....

And IMO, the 89 is not comparable to the 41. At least not to me.
