NICK KAIKKONEN of Vulcan Gun Refinishing parkerising review (pics are up!!!)

This is my soapbox stump for the work done by Vulcan Gunworks in Windsor. Clark turned me on to Nicks work.

I saved a "bucket o bolts" 1911 1943 US GI from being deacted. This gun was majorly screwed up. It was scratched and gouged up with lead poured down the original barrel. It had little or no finish left with lots of metal damage.

Since it was a basket case I decided to bring it to Nick. I decided to restore it as a shooter. Nick is very professional and offered a choice of parkerizing finishes. I decided on his custom green tinted parkerizing that he invested time and research on from the University of Windsor. The green mimicks the green tint surplus GI's had after years in storage in cosmoline. This is not paint but true green tinted park.

I got the gun back last week and I am very impressed with his work see for yourself. I can not believe it is the same pistol!! If you want his contact information feel free to PM me.

My dad carried a Bren during WW2 , often wish I had one and at near 82 he says he could still strip one....I have no doubt he could .
Does this fellow do any gunsmithing ? My son is looking to get a couple Garands done but needs the barrels remove and replace . I guess some special equipment is needed .

He seemed pretty knowledgeable with regards to USGI weapons he does do some smith work, but the best thing would be to call him and ask. I saw his garands and they were amazing.

Wow! What incredible work he does!

I've heard that dunking freshly parkerized parts (while they are still warm) in Cosmoline or Valvoline, will result in a chemical reaction that turns the parkerizing green. I don't know his method, but it sure looks good.

Thanks for the tip. If I ever need anything parkerized, I think I'll give him my business. Its just too bad he isn't in B.C. or Alberta.:(

Cheers!

Thanks , I'll make sure my son see's this post . He has at least 2 Garands he wants to restore .
We tried to get a functioning Bren out to a range a year or so ago but that new law came in so we were unable . Too bad as my father wanted to try one out again . Hard to believe it's been about 64 years since he carried one for almost 2 years during WW2 .

Very nice Bren you have there . :)

Well that may be true but perhaps this fellow will decide to become a dealer on CGN if he gets some recommendations from members and sees it is a good market for him. He may not even know of CGN ( yet ) ask MR. CLARK .

BTW , do you do refinishing ?

He's actually not a dealer, and I dont he even has a PC anymore. He does parking and smith work as a hobby and has spent years tinkering with way to perfect the look and colour of his park.

He actually runs a body shop full time and this on the side. His bussiness is mostly by work of mouth and to be honest I dont even know if he is aware of this thread.

I put this thread up as alot of people are looking for park work and dont seem to be happy with what is out there and thought this was more of a way to help members of CGN who were looking for the perfect park experience.

And the work is perfect thus why I put the thread up.

As for me yes I do some work but nothing compared to him. I mostly do wood restoration and simple bluing.

As mentioned, there are rules for advertising/promoting services and businesses on CGN.

I realise that you have good intentions, but please refrain from bumping this thread to the top of the Forum as the "business" mentioned is not a sponsering member here on CGN.This is not fair to the sponsering businesses/members who support this site.

I don't want to have to lock this thread.........

Thank You.

Will do

Whats required to be a sponsor, what do you have to do, are you paying for advertising space, is it a monthly thing or a simple one time payment. Can you explain the process for me when you get a sec.

Perhaps I can get CGN another sponsor, continue to get Nick some more work and also have someone members can go to get there park work done right for once.

Those sponsors that had issues with the bumps might just have another sponsor to compete with now. As said I've had work done by most and there is no competition.

Anyhow as stated if you could let me know the sponsor process that would help greatly.

thanks

That 1911 on page 1 is making me thing that I should strip my Remington Rand 1911 down for a park job (some bubba polished and blued it before it came to me). Amazing work.
