Night force optics?

The Cleaner - What these guys are saying is that if you live in BC, and buy a scope from TSE in Alberta, you don't pay the P.S.T. on the scope like you would if you bought it in your home province. This doesn't only apply if you buy in Alberta, same would go if you ordered the scope from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, etc.

A lot of guys on this board say support your local dealer, and I agree, but for a high end product like this where the P.S.T. on a $2000 scope could be $140, I'd order from where I could get the best deal. TSE are good guys too.

P&D enterprises also carries them. We have them in on occasion but are very low on stock now.

Corlane had some real problems in providing decent customer service to a fella on this board. The whole issue was not pretty to say the least.

For the money they are first rate. I have had some exposure to the USOPTICS line and from experience (pending application) Nightforce wins hands down.

Another up and coming is IOR. Still a wild card on quality (hit and miss) and the distribution is not as strong as the Nightforce line. If you don't mind experimenting, the IOR line looks very promising.

If you've ever looked through a Horus scope it's exactly that. It's a Horuscope busy as hell and where do you go for warranty just like IOR. As far as going with NightForce over US Optics, though nightforce is good, on the more powerful scopes like 8-32 and 12-42 there is limited MOA adjustment where as US Optics has tons of MOA available. More importantly what kind of gun is it going on and how far do you plan to shoot? I've ordered my US Optics from Alberta Tactical Rifle in Calgary and it's working it's way through customs right now but I want to be able to shooting my gun a long ways and not run out of scope either.

3.5-15x50 NXS w/ MILDOT reticle. I have use scopes worth twice as much and they were certainly NOT twice as good. For the money the nightforce is hard to beat. I almost got a Schmidt Bender prior to trying the Nightforce, S-B is an great scope but over 2X the price. Nightforce was comprable in several areas. The above mentioned Nightforce has 110 MOA elevation which is a lot. If you feel you need to chuck things a little further, put a 20 MOA cant base under it.

You will not be disapointed with it.

Got mine from The Shooting Edge a good while ago, they had it in stock, and service was great.

As for mounting, I would suggest looking at a high quality set of rings and base. Try TSE, or Nightforce's own line. My advice (from a painful experience) is that should you be unsure as to what height of rings and style of bases you will need to float the sucker, would be to call the manufacture of the rings and bases your looking at. Tell them what rifle you have and what scope your trying to stick on it. This will eliminate trial and error through a shipper to get the right product. I had mine for long time and was still trying to get the right size goods on my door step but it was time consuming getting something, sending it back.

I understand US OPTICS does make some very high quality scope as well but I don't have enough experience with them to give any feedback.

Good luck.

I just want to be clear on this when I mention limited MOA and this is straight from the NightForce Catalog. The scope range in MOA as follows:
3.5-15x50mm & 56mm NXS= 110MOA
5.5-22x50mm & 56mm NSX= 100MOA
8-32x56mm NSX= 65 MOA
12-42x56mm NSX= 45 MOA

If you contact the manufacturer, they will tell you what the lowest rings and base setup is but that won't neccessarily fit you the shooter. I agree with Blackcloud on the service at the shooting edge. JR and the guys there try very hard to keep their customers happy. Giving them a call and talking to JR or James B. is a good option or give Alberta Tactical a call. I know Rick's 50cal is sporting a Night Force but he also has a 45MOA canted rail to offset the lack of MOA.

Buy reading this thread, it has convinced me to go for NightForce instead of US Optics...Just being logic, pricewise!

Hmm, if I did not shave my head I would pull out my hair.
Well so far I’ve read all kinds of articles and read all your post to still wonder what kind to buy. I do think I will not go with the Horus/computer added scopes. I want to learn too shoot not have something tell me how. I guess it’s down to saving my pennies and picking a Leopold or Night vision scope. But then there is the size choice, 300 is the longest range locally in the Lower main land. Is buying a scope for 300 meters Mean when I want to be able to learn 300+ will I have to buy a different scope? I can afford a great scope but not more then one.
The Cleaner:confused:

since they are adj power, you can use the lower power for 300m, and when you are out hunting or long range stuff, just turn up the magnification power?
