Night Vision vs Thermal Imaging

Not very hard really.

Common knowledge a space blanket will mask your thermal image, and IR treated material in the right camo will mask you from IR sensors.

Combine both and you can defeat the IR/Thermal imagers.

Thanks for bringing this point to light Skullboy, its important we discuss both positive and negatives to the the equipment we purchase. Often in the last few weeks I have compaired what I could purchase for the equivalent value of a PVS14 and thought to myself "damn" thats pricey, I could have a ATV. However I think seeing in the dark trumps most other advantages other equipment can afford to you. Even if theres counter measures, I can only rationalize that seeing like a cat is an advantage in most situations.....

Whatever you purchase make sure you pick the right retailer, I have been going through a year long headache with Scoutbasecamp, and an Armasight product. They pass you off to Montreal and then you are pretty much screwed with getting any resolution. They throw off an email every 6-8 weeks saying they will get back to you then nothing. Try calling and they don't answer the phone. I am not commenting on their products but their customer service sure sucks.

If I'm willing to spoil myself and spend around $5K on a Gen 3 monocular like a PVS14, who would be the best retailer in Canada? Both from a price standpoint AND a service/warranty standpoint.

While having night vision/flir/thermal would be rather cool, for a civilian like myself and the prices for such gear, I would rather invest the money in a PGWDTI Coyote or Timberwolf. but that is just me.

From what I have seen being with LEO ERT units, unless the NV units are the current version, well maintained, and used enough to be familiar with, they can be a hindrance at times.......and with some versions you do get the tell tale green ring around your eyes....... ;)

I bought recently from Tactical Imports and it arrived fast and everything was as discussed/promised. So far so good!

Who retails it in Canada?

Herooutdoors dot com http://www.herooutdoors.com/nightime-optics/?page=2 NVD's

The thermals on there are NOT CHEAP so by clicking? you absolve me of any expenses and/OR bills as a result of any subsequent heart attack, stroke, injury, death, etc. etc. etc. http://www.herooutdoors.com/thremal-imaging/

Another good one is MIL SIG. https://www.milsig.ca/night-vision-c-559

The best quality NV stuff is still American and still ITAR. In Canada, you get civillian items that are 40% more than what Americans can buy south of the 49th, and the quality is 40% less. TNVC sells ITT PVS-14 for $3500, in Europe you will pay perhaps 5000 Euros. But you get the item you really want.

You can buy the same stuff from Europe, you will pay more, but get exactly the right stuff, not some knock-off with dubious quality.

I got all my Wilcox goodies out of Denmark, buddy's got theirs from Australia. ITAR doesn't apply.

What a piss off. I will be going back and forth to Finland for the next year or so. Does anyone know if I could buy a Level 3 PVS14 monocular there?

NVG is about fighting at night. If I make you hide instead of fight, it means I won.
