Nighthawk Custom versus Wilson

I have to ask why someone would spend so much on a 1911 when a Kimber or Springfield for half the price will shoot every bit as good and will be just as relaible. Case in point LAPD SWAT Kimber and USMC Kimber now Springfield and those are out of the box guns. There is a fellow at my club that I consider one of if not the best pistol shots in the club and he can shoot every bit as good with his STI Trojan as he can with a $3000 custom. Shoots even better with is SIG P210.

Which is better? Let the debating begin :dancingbanana:

This is like comparing a GMC pick-up truck to a Chevy pick-up truck. Both NH and Wilson are made in the same small town in Arkansas. NH has several pistolsmiths that were with Wilson at one time.....hence the similarities between the two builders. I will say this though, NH has cooler grips.....so caulk one up to NH.....and that's coming from someone who owns a Wilson CQB with light rail.

I am not sure I agree with you completely. I agree that Kimber and Springfield make some good guns, but they won't have the same attention to fit and finish, nor the same guaranteed inherent accuracy as a Wilson Combat (most of which are guaranteed to shoot 1 inch groups, or less, at 25 yards). Having said that, I think the price paid for each "increment" in performance/quality increases geometrically after about $1000 on a 1911 (i.e. you pay larger and larger premiums for smaller and smaller improvements as the overall price of the gun increases). In the end though, I guess it is just worth it to some people.

It DOES seem like Nighthawk has plagiarized the whole Wilson concept. Even the websites look sort of similar.

It's funny that you mentioned that. I was just thinking the same thing after a recent visit to the NH website. I also noticed that a certain fellow that was in Wilson's customer service dept is now with NH's customer service. I wouldn't doubt it if they exchange disgruntled personnel on a regular basis.....being in the same town and all.

Yeah, I think the copycat thing is a little cheesey. I think NH should have tried for a more distinctive branding, especially given the high quality of the product.

IIRC - Nighthawk chaps use to work for Wilson.
That being said - this type of quality pistol becomes a question of personal preference. $$$$ not for everyone.
At the time that I was looking Nighthawk was not available in Canada...

If you needed warranty work or service on your Wilson, where would you go? If I understand correctly, Nighthawk has a warranty centre (who and where?) here in Canada. Does Wilson have the equivalent?

Buy it from TSE and if anything goes wrong , send it back to them . If im not wrong they re the canadian distributor for Nighthawk . Ask Scully , he had a problem with his gun and had to send it back to the states .

Warranty work is handled in Canada for the Nighthawks, this you can verify by checking with Nighthawk if you wish.

If your going for a wilson, get one questar'd in. A wilson CQB can be had for 1650 in US stores. Nearly double is retail in Canada.

I don't know about that price. All the retailers I could find had the CQB for about $2250, in its most basic configuration. P&D sells it for $2799. By the time I factor in the import fee, I would only save a few hundred bucks at most.

Have you ever dealt with these guys before? I can't find any contact info on their website.

No I haven't. I found them on the wilson approved dealer list, close to my zip code by my US address.

Try browsing through some more approved dealers on their website. Maybe you can find a better website/dealer with more info on it.

I find when researching dealers google can sometimes help if they are big enough. If someone has a complaint, they are more than willing to voice it on forums.

Oh, and try the main link... that'll give you the info you need:

Well, I first bought a Nighthawk GRP, but quickly sold it, and bought a Wilson Combat Professional instead. In the end, I decided I'd rather stick with a commander length pistol.

Do you mean the professional? I picked it up here on the boards, unfired. It should arrive tomorrow. I'll post pics when I get it. I am thinking of getting a Talon II to keep it company.

There was a professional on EE ?? how come i missed it ? Y dont u get the T3 , they both cost as much i think ? 2700$ + 350 for diamond black and you re set !!!!
