Nikon prostaff 7i range finder opinions?

I don't have any first hand knowledge of this model, but Nikon makes quality equipment. At $400, it is a middle grade range finder for sure. I have friends with 10yr old Nikon range finders that have seen a lot of use and they definitely hold up.Keep in mind when looking at reviews and comparisons that many units will range a house or a barn at max distance, but have a hard time with a deer at half that range. If you get one, post a review or your impressions here.

The reviews I have seen rate it as a solid all around optic and range finder. I think its a great deal especially now that Cabela's has then on there Christmas deals for 299.99 with free shipping and a 40.00 mail in rebate.

Bought it last time it was on sale at Cabelas, expecting somewhat decent glass for the price, having experience with their cameras and scopes, seemed darker in clarity inside the store than the vortex ranger. Bought it anyway as I didn't want to stretch the 100+ hoping it wouldn't be too bad outside in daylight.

Girlfriend made me take it back the next day and get the one I should have got the first time.
The clarity is night and day between the two, I'd you can spend a bit more I'd advise the ranger 1000, used it all this season and it has impressed me so far. That and a lifetime warranty to me are worth it.

I have binos and scopes from vortex, mostly entry levels, when they on sale for a good discount and I think they're decent value for money at that sale price.

yup go vortex ranger 1000. They don't cost much more and are warrantied for life.

I like the Nikon, I have been able to range buildings out to 1300yrds with it. However like mentioned above when it starts to get darks out the glass is not good enough to see well in low light conditions. The actual laser works amazing at ranging targets but the glass needs some improvements.

I ranged a tree across the cut at 600 quickly and repeatably. The optic sucks thought, even in midday the image is noticeably darker than real life.

It's probably not too bad a unit for $200ish, but that's all its worth.
You buy heap, you buy twice, try save a bit more and get above entry level if you can, even if it means buying used.
