Nice rifle. But do to my ignorance of J.C.'s, I thought all forestocks were rounded at the front. I didn't realize some were squared off at the front with a nose cap. Here's a pic of mine. Numbers all match but the magazine & the ugly, but solid stock with no real markings at all. This ones from 1945.

3 different types of forestock

I'de have to look up when they changed and which factory did what and when the changes were but there is the squared end metal cap the rounded metal cap and then the stock without the metal cap.

now I'm just guessing here that the rounded cap was first then the no cap then the squared cap.

#5

Beautiful #5 (I'm a self proclaimed JC "expert") one of the later, 12/47 is the last know batch. I have /had several #5 and this is one of the nicest if not the nicest one I have come across.

What's the difference between The #4 anf the #5. I have a #4 that looks 100% identical to your #5, but is marked #4. The reason I ask is every time I google N0.4 mark 1 I get pics of rifles that look different from my rifle

You likely have one of the creative bubba No4's converted to look similar to a No5.....

Hey Bill, glad to see you're getting some good reviews on the No5 I sold ya.
That was one of many all matching mint No5's I had over the years, they seem to know where I live and find their way to my gun safe. That one shoots very well with 150 grain Hornady handloads.:sniper:

Other then the wood stock being trimed down (by my grandfarther) it's 100% numbers matching original

Well if it's marked as a No4, it's not a No5.....if it looks like a No5, then it was bubba'd at some point. There was an outfit in Edmonton selling them not too long ago and they had some creative advertising to go with it......saying they were "special forces" experimental models etc etc.......:)

It says No 5 right there on the sidewall...those bubbaed No 4 Jungle Carbine lookalikes say No 4.

algoma, what's missing in the photos is the muzzle end of the barrel. From the pics it's not possible to see the uncovered forward section and the flash hider attachment. Also, look at the butt plate, at the rubber recoil pad just behind the repair to the stock.

That's where the real differences are. The action, is the same as the #4Mk1.

We were talking about Algomacoutry's rifle....he hasn't posted any pics of it yet...... he says his "No4" looks identical to the pics of that No5.
