No end to SKS imports yet new source for them is Russia

Picked up my 4th SKS today,$169 in Cabelas,1953 all matching laminate,no electro markings and she is VERY nice,I fail to see all the scaremongering coming through,I was told by the sales girl that on Wed their opening day they sold 80 SKS rifles alone.

That Grand Opening Cabelas sale is pretty good $50 off a laminated SKS and they have Romanian Ammo on sale too ($219). You won't get a laminated SKS for that cheap (at least not without purchasing in bulk). I wonder how many they have in stock? I know one dealer in Edmonton purchased 1300 Soviet SKS in the last year and have approx 30 rifles left.

The other main Edmonton dealer is also sold out, but there are some left at Cabelas and Can Tire.

Me too... but mine was cheaper seeing that it has a hardwood stock..is a 1953 with the same new molat markings...but bbq painted and multi refurbed and ya a slighly brown bayo...which cleaned up to silver in no time.

I have read several comments that Canadian Tire had stock of SKSs. Living in S. Alberta I have yet to see a real gun in my local stores. Perhaps some store owners have decided to stock them.

The ones in my local store are only the Tapco versions... don't see any wood stocks.

Its only some of the CT stores that sell rifles mate,I don't think any in Edmonton sell them,Leduc does though.

Oh well, with at least 80000 SKS rifles floating around in Canada, and many of them on the EE, you are bound to come across a good one from a fellow CGN member some time.

I think that number is out, I recall reading a post from one of the importers who said they imported over 125,000 into Canada alone. And they haven't been in the game that long.

Excellent discussion on CT SKSs on NFA facebook site. It seems that Cold Lake, Fredericton, Moncton and one in Northern Onatario are leading the way on CT return to firearms sales. It seems that the charge is lead by CT owners who are also hunters. Cold Lake and Fredericton Sout seem to be the largest so far. Fredericton, (My Local) is huge and decorated like a Cabela's. It would drive Torontians to distraction to see piles of ammo and guns with a dad trying a little girl out on a new pink bike right beside all that death and destruction.

Saskatoon West side store is also pretty well stocked with firearms, and shooting and hunting . Was good to see, an M14, Jr Carbine, and a couple SKS's in the front glass counter, and about 50-75 other guns in glass display cases behind the counter, 4-5 large racks of camo . Not quite Cabela's, but way more than I have seen in the past 20 years from our CT's.

Glad that some CT stores are going that route, more store selling guns should lead to better selection. Awhile back I was buying .22 pellets at CT, the clerk unlock the cabinet and escorted me to the counter with the pellets. Lucky he did't ask for my PAL, LOL!

I think Cabela expansion into Central and East Canada has scared CT Management and made them re-think their yuppie hardware store focus. Without the guns Cabelas would have crushed them on outdoor pursuits. You watch how many anti types show up at Cabelas to try the tents and kayaks! They are Zellars to Cabelas' Walmart!

Yeah from what I heard Cabelas North Edmonton almost sold all there 400 SKS rifles (wood and laminate) with their Grand Opening sale (only at their location). I have heard some real lovely rifles came out of there. If not for a knee surgery I would have taken a peak, but todays Friday and now standard $219.99 pricing. I heard their crates of ammo almost sold out as well.

Canadian Tire Leduc is a good source right now as well.

John one made a comment yesterday that the Chinese want to much for their SKS to import. I heard another rumour that because the US somehow got some real beat up Chinese SKS in their borders (featured in Military Surplus Magazine) that now the Chinese expect US Collector pricing for Chinese SKS rifle. If true this would be a huge problem as I don't see Canadians paying $300-500 for a beat up Chinese SKS - at least not anytime soon.

I noticed that Frontier has Norinco Chinese Military SKS for $250 - does anyone know if these are Norinco? Or Chinese Military? Knowing that Norinco is one of the factories that produces military rifles. But there is a big difference between Norinco Commercial rifles and Military rifles.

This makes a guy wonder where we will get rifles one current stocks in house run out?

I naturally thought China would be the answer - maybe not?

I know that there are still huge stocks in Albania (Home grown), Mongolia (Russian rifles), and the further Soviet Stans (Russian rifles) There most be some in the Baltic republics and likely alot in Vietnam (Chinese military). Question is how to get them as they seem to have a use for them still.

There is no such thing as a NORINCO produced SKS. They are an export entity that China uses to export to other countries. ALL Chinese Type 56 SKS's were produced by the Chinese state to military spec. They (Norinco) modified some of the original Chinese 56 to cater to the western market thus making the Paratrooper, Cowboy Companion, Hunter etc. These were modified originals. There was never a knock off or Fake SKS made. The Chinese government experimented with the SKS to find ways of producing them faster/cheaper. Thus the STAMPED receiver and CAST receiver models which were discontinued quickly because they were not strong enough.

What dealer bought 1300 in Edmonton?
