No Handguns @ Gun Show :(

IMHO, it's a slippery slope.... first it's no handguns, then open the doors for anything "they" don't like the looks of.

Sad, really.

NAA.

Seems to me it is more of a political maneuver (manure) by the mayor of Surrey to grandstand before the uneducated masses with cattle herd mentality, to show she is doing something to combat the gang violence in the mean streets of Surrey.
I just cant seem to grasp the concept of how not allowing handguns, or ammo to be sold at a gun show will deminish the supply of illegal arms and the violence brought on by the bad-guy's while engaged in criminal activities?????
I just dont get it!

The show was put on hold, but then they did allow it to happen with the condition of no handguns and no ammo.
You are right, it has a lot to do with perception of the masses; Specially when Surrey has been having a lot of shooting incidents lately.

I can see it being a touchy subject in Surrey right now with all their gang shootings. I heard heresay that their was a handgun and 3 cases of ammo stolen from the Mission show; I never read any news about it, but I wonder if it is true and perhaps that played a part in the council's decision.

I would boycott it by not attending! It is one of the biggest reasons I go....

Except that only furthers their agenda. You boycott it, not enough people attend, and they can say well nobody went so clearly its not wanted, lets not allow any more shows in the future.

The best thing you can do is go, then write to Surrey city council about how you were disappointed by the lack of sporting arms and ammo.

Amen to that brother!

If Section 19(2.1) or (2.2) of the Firearms Act applies to you (the ‘automatic Authorization to Transport’), then the ATT which is attached as a condition of your federal licence permits you to Transport:

(d) to and from a gun show.

So vendors may have been asked not to display handguns, but anyone with a PAL Conditions ATT is perfectly free to bring them all!

Its :bsFlag:alright and a big steaming pile of it. Some have said to boycott the show but that only hurts the organizers and vendors. Also plays into the hands of the people that want to see the show not return at all next year.

Put my .02 in the form of a letter to the editor of the Province. Published today.
Good for you. There was two or three published letters from the day before.

Or better yet don't go... And write the letter...

That way the dealers and customers all give them hell

Good work!
This one yours T?

GUN BAN SOLVES NOTHING :

Does Surrey council’s ban on handguns and ammunition at the B.C. Rod and Gun Show address the city’s gun-crime problem? No, it does not. Does it provide greater public safety? No, it does not. Does it restrict the legal activities of sport shooters? Yes.

Many people may think that council has taken a step to end the gang shootings but they have not. Shows like this have never presented a danger to public safety.

As an avid sport shooter, I’m more than a little annoyed that the restrictions on the show are being passed off as a measure that will improve public safety. This is untrue.

Here is an intriguing thought...

I was at the show earlier today. It opened at noon.
I was actually surprised how busy it was during normal working hours.
I have to wonder if all the extra publicity brought in more traffic.

It would be nice to think all the 'free' publicity would translate into increased traffic.
