No more Dynapoints at Walmart?

I haven’t seen any Dynapoints at the two Walmarts (that I go to) that sell ammo in the GTA. Instead they have Winchester Xpert .22lr. I bought two boxes even though some folks on RFC say they foul up your bore something awful. Dynapoints were pretty accurate and cheap for bulk ammo so I hope that Winchester hasn’t discontinued them.

Just went to the Winchester site and found this:
FAQ: Where can I find Dynapoint 22's?
The Dynapoint is the same cartridge as the WW22LR which should be available at most retailers. Specs can be found here.

I'd say they are full of crap. The link takes you to the .22 Wildcat. Lots of people have remarked on how inaccurate the Wildcats are. They show a speed of 1255 fps. I've chronyed them at just under 1200. Dynapoints are around 1100 to 1130.

The word at Rimefirecentral is that the wildcats are to replace the dynapoints but all reports say the Wildcats are not of the same quality.

You watch the dynapoints will reappear under another name and priced as premium ammo.

Goodthing mine likes Federals...........

I saw that, it is B.S. I've shot lots of Wildcat and Dynapoints. Aside from the fact that Wildcat are LRN and Dynapoints are copper washed (I think that's the correct term) I've always found Dynapoints more accurate.

PPFFFFFFFFFTTT!

Good thing CT carries the "new" 525rnd federal bulk pack I used to get at Walmart. I don't like using lead RN ammo, period.

The Dynapoints I got are copper plated, not lead.

A little off topic but I heard this from a winchester rep while a a local g/s. He was saying that all winchester ammo production will be slow for some time due to a very large contract with the U.S Army. Don't know how this will affect sales.

I know. No more dynapoints at walmart, only the crappy "wildcat" LRN.

Could be a typo on the website. Agree that the Wildcat is crap. I've been using X22LRH (37gr. copper washed) as a Dynapoint replacement with good results. X22LRPP (40gr copper washed) looks promising too. I don't have a crono, so I can't confirm velocity vs. Dynapoints.

just by chance last time i was in wal-mart they had a carton of dynas( which had gone up a dollar) side by side with something else by winchester( of course it was behind glass and i can't focus that far) - same box and whatever, but another dollar higher again- the woman behind the counter told me i got her last box of dynas, but the other sku was still active and that's what they would be getting

I think it is called X-perts a 36gr HP

I bought some of their "thunderbolts" a 40gr lead bullet, nice to shoot, $1.53 a box

According to the local WallyWorld person here, Dynapoints are no longer listed as available to WalMart, but have been replaced indeed by the so called Winchester Xpert in similar packaging/pricing.. Having not tried the new Xpert(packaging) I cant say yet, but the old Xperts in the silver/black box were lead 36g and the Dynapoints were 40g copper plated..Personally I really liked the Dynapoints, but it appears these too have now disappeared..Dyna's-Dino's....I am seeing a pattern here.. :(
Cheers
daBear :D

Just bought a box of the Xperts at Wally World and they are 36g lead hollowpoints. Haven't tried them yet. The good thing about the Dynapoints was that most of my .22's liked them and they were copper plated. I, also, bought some of the Federal bulk pack at Crappy Tire. Guess, I'll try them both out later this week.

Xpert stuff is crap !!

I tried a box of those Xpert .22s as a possible rplacement for the Dynapoints. The Xperts produced more of a "pattern" than a "group". At first, I thought my scope took a jolt, because at 40 yards, shooting at an 11" X 14" target, only 2 of 10 shots were on the paper !!!! After checking out the scope, I ran a few Dynapoints through the gun, and then tried the target again - all ten were well within the 1.5" center dot.

I have not found a gun yet that the Xpert stuff shoots well from, whereas, the Dynapoints shot well in everything I tried them in.

I thought this might have been a fluke, but in comparing notes at a recent gun show, other shooters shared similar experiences with the Xpert ammo. I guess I'll have to try the Federal bulk stuff eventually.

Dyna duds sucked in my rifles as they where mostly duds in 2 bulk packs!
And them Xperts foul up my rifles like I have been shooting coal all day.

I bet they are moving the plant to China to be next to where their guns are made.
Good riddance, and give me Federal ammo anyday. 8)

If the new experts are the same as the old experts, they are quite inconsistent in our 10/22s. We found the same to be true of the Federal bulk packs. Seems when you get them in a brick of 50's the quality is a bit better, e.g. Powerpoints 40gr accurate and hell on gophers or even remington cyclones same deal. With the bulk packs you could tell from the varying bang volumes that they were not all loaded the same and some didn't even have enough zap to cycle the action on our rugers especially when the guns were new. Also if you spill a bulk pack it's a bigger mess so good riddance there's better ways to save a coupla bucks.

Sounds like a letter to wal-mart, to them it's just ammo and it is all the same, if they hear that the x-pert is crap and people will not buy it, then they might be inclined to stock something that will sell.
