No more hmr in Canada

I remember when I first got my 17HMR...... I paid $140 for 2 bricks of Hornady ammo for it...... Ahhhh the good old days.

It's really too bad, but I can load my .223 for about the same money as buying .17hmr..... I haven't even shot my 17 in about 20 months!

I've still got about 1/2 a brick that I bought 2 summers ago, I remeber bi*chin because it was $95 a brick, I guess I'll just take it out to the range once, just to shoot it and put it back away, I can shoot gophers with sumptin else this year.

Cheers!

"...prices so high?..." Prices came from a shop that isn't known for low prices. Nice people, but a pricey shop. Not much competition where the shop is located.

Whoohoo, picked up a new 93R17 today, mounted with a Legend 5-15x40. Can't wait to get out to the country to put some rounds through it. Anyhow while I was @ Cabelas I noticed they had no hmr rounds in stock. When I asked about this they told me that Hornady didn't renew their export permit and we won't be seeing any more ammo soon.
Anyone hear anything about this???

what a farce, Im guessing you are in Winnipeg... I have stood there and listened to those morons go on about ammo shortages and how they have to import ammo from Europe now...they go on about how bad the shortage is... then I drive up the road to WSS and buy my .17HMR and they have a pallet on the floor and when I said "preparing for the shortage are you ?" they look at me all confused and say .. "shortage ?"

Yep, just got back from wss as well. They have them. A couple of Canadian Tires along the way were out though. Just gotta find out which rounds this rifle likes then find a couple of bricks of it...shortage or not.

I don't think there is that big of a shortage, just that it's getting close to season. I have been stocking up the last 2 months with buying 2 boxes every payday. But I noticed today I could buy 40 rounds of .223 for the same price as hmr So I might switch to a .22wmr at $3 less a box it might be worth it.

What you're saying doesn't mean there's going to be a country wide shortage of .17 rimfire. It simply means that Cabelas will be short of ammo. The export permits are made out specific to the company wishing to import the ammunition.

Hornady likely dropped the ball and failed to file their paperwork in a timely manner. It's not an uncommon situation for them.

well one store in port perry has lotof 17hmr. everything from hornady to winchester to cci and remmington. Shortage? that could lead a company to court for trying to sell something knowing there will be no ammo down the road..... cabelas? who are they? support you small guys store and put walmart and Can tire and that so call basspro our of buisness.

If you reload your own 17's you should never have to worry, but then you have to go to over to a center fire. That's a quarter the bullet is sitting on. It's just too cute for words.:D
