No more Norinco .223

I just added 223 to my reloading regimen, the only way that I could get screwed later on is a shortage of bullets.

$1800 gets you a set of dies to reform spent .22lr into .55grain .223 pills .. Filling with solder wire is also required ..

Very sad that .223 pills are so costly .. Compared to other calibers ..

Interesting. Please share the details.

Always lots of spent, useless .22 around.

yes it is interesting, and a big whore of an expense. I would guess that 223 bullets (.224 55 gr) would go into big time production if demand skyrocketed, unless the current price of domestic 223 comes down closer to 30 or 40 cents a round. I doubt other foreign sources would be as cheap as norc either. who knows, it may turn out to be a big deal about nothing, I just like reloading, don't shoot anything I don't reload except 22 wmr (switching to 223) and 12 gauge (yet to come?)

Sooner or later someone is going to start bringing it in again. There's more than one shipping company.

Looks that way, can someone confirm?

Canam already said that they will continue to ship the firearms, just not the ammo.

My guess (and this is purely a guess) is weight/insurance premiums for ammo is high, and profits compared to other goods low, so they may bring ammo at some point again if they run out of stuff to ship, but as long as they can fill a ship with lighter/more profitable things ammo will get left in china.

f:P: uhhhhhh ammo that can go boom and is a dangerous explosive product vs Guns that are chunks of steel and pose no hazard.

Who's stupid here?

90% of Canadians believe that guns can load themselves with anything lying around and then go on murderous rampages. That's what the "automatic" part means.

Never liked that ammo anyways..
Too many bullets get "pushed in" during cycling, creating potential over pressure situation.
I have seen that ammo breaking AR bolts, no thanks.
Me either. The case that I bought some years ago reeked when it was shot. I ran a bunch through a Mini-14 I owned at the time. Not only did the rifle shoot like crap with Norinco it smelled like it too.

Was there not a test done by SAAMI or something where they tried to blow up ammo like the supposed "bomb" people try to propagate it can become, and found it simply fizzles? Ammo is not an "explosive" in that it will not create a bomb effect when ignited en-mass.

There's also no need to be insulting.

Who cares what SAAMI says or does. They don't regulate shipping of dangerous goods. Ammunition is a dangerous good, that's why it comes with a 1.4 sticker on the outside of the case or crate. And while a box of it may not do much in a fire what do you think an entire container full will do when engulfed in flames on a ship?

To ship a dangerous good like ammunition costs a container shipping company a lot of money for certification, training, paperwork and insurance. When you carry only a couple containers of ammo on a ship with 100 containers it doesn't make it worth it.

The container shipping company that was bringing the ammo over from China doesn't want to carry this dangerous good anymore simple as that.

I am sure Canada Ammo is looking at different ways to bring the ammo over from China. They can't afford to lose that part of there business.

As for what's stupid is when the speculation and ass-umptions are being made. If you wanna know just ask Canada Ammo. They are a first class retailer and give honest straight up answers.

How do they bring firecrackers and other pyrotechnics into the country airlift them?
Also the last led smelter is closing or closed in the US.
Even solder could shoot up in price.
You can have the guns but you are going to have to go without the ammo.
Sounds like a UN plot.

I believe the issue is that Chinese ammo isn't allowed in a US port. And the ships go to Vancouver and Seattle to unload on the same run, and the ship can't go to Seattle if it has any Chinese ammo on it....so one container of ammo can hold up a ship with 1000's of containers on it.
