No more Savage 99s

28" barrel military version of the 99? If that's what you have, very rare piece (about 800 issued). Those were even affixed with a bayonet.

Savage was considering re-introducing the 99 but the idea has been scrapped due to cost.
 
I think that the problem with MadDog is the barrels on his savages are too long. If headed his way I will take my hacksaw and help him cut them back to the "more desirable" 15 3/4 inch length.

Check out the current issue of Rifles "The Legacy of Lever Guns" on the stands now. 2 BIG articles about the 99 and its main calibres. Getting a friend for my 99c308 hopefully. Looking for a nice shooter in 300 to play with. Rumor of a 38-55 recently but may be a myth. My 99c was carried but not shot much-the metal is all pretty much new and it shoots like a dream. Might have to get a 250 too if I can find a nice shooter post 60. Later when I have some more money:)

I have a small sampling of 99's and was at the range this morning with a very early 250-3000 take-down (1915 I believe). Not a collector, but in very clean shape, and it's been D&T'd, so my old bifocal assisted eyes have the advantage of looking through a scope. The second of two 3 shot groups today at 100 yds. could be covered with a dime (90 gr. Sierra HP BT / IMR 4350). A large bit of good luck involved in that performance, as I do not really shoot that well... but I was impressed with the rifle. It'll see a few field trips later this season. I think it would be a great centrefire to start grandkids with when they're ready.
 
lots of old 99s out there but you need to look carefully .depends what you want it for i come accros about 5 a week some good looking for more may have some to sell
