No nazi auction

I can see why Nazi memorabilia is prohibited in Germany. As for other countries, meh.

I would judge a person not on his collection but on his politics. It isn't difficult to draw out a closet Nazi.

Hi
Well I think indirectly it was good publicity for maynards,

I never heard of them before and didn't know about the auction, there was still some nice stuff for sale and personally I registered for info on the next gun auction

the auction went ahead for other items that were not an issue

a 98K brno went for $576, enfield sporter $132

Note the Nazi-era Luger S/42 and Walther AC/42 that were auctioned. It's ironic the people complaining raised a fuss about the flags and other stuff but missed the firearms.

Censorship is never good, no matter what the reason.

You have to learn about the past so the mistakes of the past are not repeated !

Oh you're right. Censorship is not a good thing. But on the other end of the spectrum... You have that fellow who wants a lamp shade or a bar of soap to complete his collection. If you get too many swastikas in your collection people are going to judge.
My grandfather fought in World War II , Canadian Forces... Mostly drove a truck. He would not have dreamed of having anything with a swastika around the house. So on one hand while you can say that we should be able to have whatever we want memorabilia wise... You also have to ask yourself if the men who fought there would have think the same.
I've never been a big believer in that... Oh I have the memorabilia so I learn from the past!

Had an argument with an sjw recently over this same thing. She said it's promoting them, then so is the German flag, Volkswagen etc.

It's about the message, not your feelings

I don't think that it's promoting them, but if you have a den that resembles the 'Eagle's Lair' you might have a teensy problem.
Although too many visits from the neighbors and kids hanging around the house...probably won't be a issue. And the Rising Sun or WW2 Soviet era gear is as much 'Evil Empire' as the Nazi's...correct. But for knee jerk reaction, tough to beat a authenticate piece of Nazi kit.
I actually like earlier German kit, WW1 and prior...but that is just me. And I have some stuff that I consider ' Borderline' too...I'm usually quiet about it though. It's like Trophy kill's on FB...not gonna turn out well IMO

Displaying a Nipponese "Rising Sun" flag or Samurai sword could be deemed offensive by many who fought the Japanese or were interned by them. The Japanese may not have extermination camps, but their track record of atrocities in SE Asia and China rivals that of the Nazis.

The Maynard's decision was based on emotion, not ethics or rationality. Revisionist history.

Remember that Maynards has relatively excessive additional fees, including a 23% buyers premium (more than double the premium most auctions charge) plus GST and provincial taxes, shipping, handling fees, etc. You can easily add another half or more to any hammer price. So the above prices are not really the actual prices paid.

My buddy bought the 1918 Luger Prohib.
Yes, it was all a media stunt imo .
So, whats the point of the alleged excessive additional fees, including a 23% buyers premium (plus taxes, shipping, handling fees, etc... ?
If you dont like the candy dont buy it.
Its called the cost of doing business.
Some of those guns end up in collectors hands some...ok lots into dealers hands and they will be on gun show tables in Chilliwack, Kamloops and on Vancouver Island and of course some went South of the Border and back east too and I witnessed the phone bids and internet bids.
Any publicity is good publicity.
Thank You Jaz Johal.

"They"? Most Jewish firearms owners I know either have - or are searching for - "Israeli Mausers"....

As George C. Scott said in one of his last acting roles: it's not the chariot, it's the charioteer.... :canadaFlag:

For my own part, I've shown a bunch to vets of pre-1948 and post-1948 service, and to a man there only positive reminiscing (and winks over the struck over/through German markings).... :yingyang:

And I think a rifle with intact German & Israeli markings would be very significant to own, indeed (I've personally looked for one for quite some time).

I’ve been keeping my eye out for one since I heard they existed and more so since it was determined that my great grandmother was from Warsaw and half Jewish. Strange what family history gets hidden.
