no suprises here Tom Rivers 303 Ruger 1a testing

yeah interestingly i had reasonable accuracy with "highland 150gr" which is a PPU brand i believe.........

otherwise the longer SPEER hot core 180 an similiar shaped Woodleigh 174s, worked well with the long throat etc!?!

could you try speers hot cor 180gr? about 40gr Varget yeee haaa

I predominantly shoot PPU out of my 303, but it doesn't seem to be fussy about which ammo I shoot out of it.
Winchester factory ammo shoots fine in the 150 grain flavour.
S&B shoots equally fine.
I lucked out on an estate sale from my hometown a year or so ago and ended up with 20plus pounds (10kg?) of powder and
several hundred bullets and another few hundred mixed brass.
Appearantly "Gevelot" brand brass was a very good brand and is desireable to some.
There were 40 odd pieces of 1944 and 1945 dated brass in the pile.
I think I have 3 sets of loading dies to work with now.
I sold or traded off a good bunch or the rest of the stash. There was a chest freezer full of reloading supplies.

I started to like the single shot rifles, and this seems like my new passion. The 303 has always intrigued me, so now I hunt for a single shot 303.

I know they are a needle in a hay stack, but if one rolls around in the hay long enough they eventually find the needle!

I have lucked out in my quest for single shot rifles. A few years ago I was at a local gunshow and for some reason was wanting a Remington Rolling Block.
There was one in 45 Colt, but was a pretty penny in price.
A second or third loop of the show later i chanced upon a little Rolling Block without a caliber tag, or stamping to be found.
I asked the vendor and he said 303 British.
I pawed it over, we settled on a price, and I went home with a 4# rifle.
I don't shoot full power loads in it, and the darned thing has a .321"/8mm bore, so I paperpatch my lead boolits up to size and shoot those.
I Lucked out on a number 1 years ago, and really like it.
Keep looking, they're out there...

I have 9 #1’s they are all shoot MOA or better, the best one is 25-06 the worst is my 9.3x74R, but 286 PRVI bullets aren’t known for winning matches but the kill good.

I ended up talking myself in making one, instead of having to wait for one. Plus I started to really like the looks of the stainless, laminate wood combination on the no'1's. I have since found and bought, at a decent price, a donor 204 that I am going to have a re-barrel done to it to 30-303, just because of the better bullets available. Probably settle on a 22" spiral fluted barrel with threaded end for a brake.

Was out shooting the 204 this past weekend just to see the action and how it works. I can now see the need to work on proper scope mounting and extracted cased bouncing off the safety, like is a know issue on the no1's. I'll have the proper bases added with the new barrel and see what I can get done with the safety. I know there is a new safety out there that has been reworked and designed better, but they are not in stainless, so we will see what route I end up taking on that one.

Dont they just cut the top off the original safety off a bit so it doesnt sit proud?
