So i finally came across a savage 24 in 30-30 over 12 ....
I want to exploit it not being a lever by making up some pointy hunting rounds
anyone have any input or exp on this setup?
Sam Fadala wrote a book on the 30-30 some years back. He had a load he claimed with a boat tail 165 grain that was comparable to the 243 for trajectory. I might still have that somewhere.
Nope, but from memory, he was off some on the flatness, I think, sighted at 200 it dropped 6" or so in 300 yards, and had to be 3" high at 100 to do that.
Why is this stuff in my head from many years ago, and I can't remember a guys name I just spoke to for five minutes?
Max load of W748 I think. That's impressive for a 30-30, and I don't think it was in a carbine, maybe a 26" bbl.
Don't seem to have the book. Too bad, it was fun. He's a 30-30 fanatic. Some stuff I read I was thinking 'yeah right'.
Maybe a 30" schuetzen barrel, spire point, and he was loaded just a bit hotter than a regular thutty thutty velocities.![]()
Because it is physically impossible for a bullet starting at 2200 fps to match the ballistics of a bullet with a comparable BC starting out at 3200 fps. As much as I admired Sam Fadala, he was certainly stretching reality to make this statement.
