An ATRS Modern Sporter with a 6x45 or 6.8 SPC barrel. Or even a 20" 5.56 barrel and shoot 70gr Accubonds or 75gr Swift Sciroccos (if it's legal where you live).
Edit: Or the 6.5 Grendel as above. Shoulda typed faster. Lots of options for deer.
Killed a few deer with my Maccabee SLR in 5.56, one with an APC223 - shot placement is everything. A 77gr Sierra HPBT works wonders when it's put in the right spot.
I finally took the plunge and took a WK180 off a friend who was selling one, and tested it out last night. I'm really liking this thing. Highly recommended. It had about 600 rounds through it before I bought it.
Highly recommended for a black rifle.

Cheapest and lightest would be a keltec SU16.
I’ve owned a couple, they have a really nice trigger and are MOA capable.
There were issues a few years ago with a few of the back of the receivers cracking. I haven’t seen anything on that in a few years,so maybe it’s solved.
I personally think this was due to reassembling wrong, after cleaning.
I had over a thousand rnds through my first one, with no issues.
And I used to load 10 pistol mags(100 rnds) and dump them as fast as possible.
If you buy new, you have full lifetime warranty.
Used you have no warranty. $800 5 lbs
Barnes 70 g bullets will drop a deer easily.
Your next step up would be WK180 chambered in .223 rem or Valkyrie.
Valkyrie will allow for a bit heavier bullet.$1100 7 lbs
After that your into MS / MDI territory.
You could jump up to 6.5 Grendel and be Capable of taking larger game as well as small.
$1900 to $5000??? 5.5 lbs +
